Common baby names you dislike

I prefer to hear common names like Ella or Lily to River, Ocean, Pearl, or Ambrose, which are names I've been hearing at the playground lately. Seems to me like those parents are trying too hard.

I don;t like Jasper either and hadn't really heard it until recently (I'd heard of it, obviously, but didn't know any). Now it seems that DC is lousy with Jaspers.

Ambrose is a family name and not one I would consider using. Ursala is another.

Neither of my children have been named but two of my nieces have been.

OK, so why is Cohen a bad choice for a name. What are its origins?

Okay, you HAVE to indulge my curiosity and tell us where you are writing from tonight, like what town/suburb and state! Maine? Oklahoma? Some other place with six Jews?

"Cohen (Hebrew: ??????? k?h?n', means: 'A Priest') is a Jewish surname[1] of biblical origins (see: Kohen). It is a very common Jewish surname, comparable to 'Smith' in an English-language context. Bearing the surname indicates that one's patrilineal ancestors were priests in the Temple of Jerusalem"

Are people seriously naming their kids "Cohen"? Oh my goodness.

I agree, who came up with that one?! I can't believe people LIKE it!!

And the nickname is Sky. And you never know if it's a boy or girl.

I always thought it went the other way around-- authors and TV writers picked trending names for the characters, and then of course, the trend builds as exposure increases. Naming a character is like naming a baby. You don't pick the name in a vacuum.

How about those parents who like to string along the same initial letter in all the names of their offspring, like the Kardashians, the Duggars ... I guess it can be creative, cute ... obsessive ...

I'm not a fan of Pearl, but it is quite an old fashioned name-in the same vein as Ruby and Opal IMO.

Me neither!!

Maybe their names are just so weird/ugly that we can't even think of them.

Actually, my DD's name is in the top 100 and quite traditional. . .just no mention-yet. . .

Any name that uses a y instead of the proper vowel. For instance, I know a Jordyn. Horrendous.

[cough] Twilight [cough] Jasper is a vampire on Twilight. I hate to say that Twilight is affecting naming trends, but Jasper came out of nowhere.

I'm not familiar with Twilight but was liking it recently because it was name of the cad Kate Winslet was trying to get over in that movie with Cameron Diaz where they trade homes in England/California. Played by Rufus Sewell.

My mother hates Nora and loves Laura. Uh, Mom? One consonant is killing it for you?

How do you know? Did you run a bunch of DNA tests?
