There are no competent members of the Trump administration. The Dems need to hammer home all the ways this administration is f-ing things up. |
Conservatives? No, they'll still send their kids to elite universities because they know that an elite education opens the most doors.
MAGA? Most of my MAGA relatives have never encouraged college. The only ones who have gone to college are the ones who are leaving the MAGA cult they were raised in. The ones who understood that education = opportunities to break the cycle of poverty. Of course it was well before MAGA, but my mom did this and provided excellent UMC lives for my siblings and I. Because of her hard work, we were able to attend great colleges and are all very successful in our 30s & 40s. Had she not had the internal drive to do well in school and get out of WV, I would be just like my cousins: jobless, on state & federal assistance, and battling one or more addictions. |
And what belief are these? Better yet what colleges meet these stricts beliefs? |
+100. Please say it louder for those in the back of the room not paying attention. This is yet another way they are bamboozling folks. Anyone thinking for one minute that UMC, Rich, and Wealthy folks are about to stop sending their kids to elite Uni’s is going to be in for a rude awakening |
Conservatives aren’t switching to Teslas and they won’t turn away from college? |
"Real" conservatives don't go to college anyhow these days. |
+1 Most of Trump's cabinet are not qualified to be in their positions, other than their loyalty test to Trump. |
Mainline Catholic beliefs taught by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Benedictine (KS), Franciscan (OH) and University of Dallas (TX) are the types of schools our oldest is attracted to. He has asked us if BYU would welcome him because he likes the mountains and what he has read about the culture. He’s also found a few Catholic schools in Europe that are of interest to him. But from a young age he’s been adamant that he wants to go into residential real estate investing (made his first investment when he was 12). His stated goal in life since he was 9 is to own apartment buildings. We know he is toying with the idea of skipping or deferring college to pursue real estate, but hasn’t approached us about it yet. We’ll see what advice we give him. You can surmise from this list that the Jesuit schools are out for him. We toured University for Dallas and it was the closest thing to Catholic BYU in culture I’ve seen. Spouse and I felt really old because there were multiple enrolled early 20s married couples with kids there. We married in our early 20s after graduation but didn’t have our first until 28. It was refreshing and different to see that on campus. Middle child is the one that will be a viable Ivy candidate, but he’s more intense than the oldest, so will be interesting to see what he wants when his turn rolls around. The youngest loves the pageantry and social scene of big time college football (we have season tickets to our alma mater). A lot will change for the youngest as there is a long way to go, so we’ll see. |
Colleges are kind of like genetic testing. Genetic testing isn't economically viable in most cases for most diseases. The problem is there are widespread genetically linked diseases obesity, heart disease and what not. However, they aren't that bad, and you can pretty much figure that out from family history. There are a few rare deleterious diseases that can benefit from genetic testing, but they are inherently rare, so they are expensive to produce tests for and don't have much of a market.
It's the same thing for education. If you go to a common University, you just don't get much out of it. Sure, there are some elite universities that can prepare students for a few niche occupations that are financially rewarding, but most people can't afford those universities and just producing more people won't make more of those niches and most people that can make into those niches were well off to begin with. |
My kids are going stem only which excludes most of the ivies. |
