Unless they’re legacy, the students at Whitman or insert fancy private school are generally just not smart enough or driven to get into an Ivy, except the very top. They go through the UMC motions pushed by their type A parents that can afford to live in Bethesda. They were born on 3rd base. They don’t have the immigrant mentality to grind until you make it because they have already made it

And conservatives are mad about it

MAGA here. No, it hasn't even occurred to us that we shouldn't send our kids to college. We are currently doing college visits, etc.

We do take note of indications of anti-white bias or anti-wealth bias, and generally speaking, more conservative campuses are free of this. Our kids deserve to be in an environment where they are welcome and included. We visited one state college in the south and eliminated it as an option based on the tour guide's repeated emphasis on all the offices and services devoted to minority students (I don't see why my kids should be the only race on campus not to receive these services- we will pay the same tuition and deserve the same services).

This is the point right here. They will continue to send there kids to elite colleges while the idiots who are worshipping them don’t. Wealthy MAGA are making things easier for themselves.

If foreigners aren’t allowed to attend our American schools, how will oligarchs launder reputations through their kids attendance?

Uh, no. Applications at the Ivys are way, way down. Applications at SEC schools are way, way up. This isn't 4D chess. People don't want to pay for their kids to become Marxist domestic terrorists at some northeastern college when they can go to Duke or Bama or Ole Miss.

I always thought it was because it was cheaper. The northeast schools are ridiculously expensive.

It's not a drastic difference. For example, High Point is popular with blue state refugees and conservatives, and it's about 70k per year. We have one school in the NE on our list and its 90k per year. The 20k difference isnt really enough to be a factor.

Or specific LACs. Or some of the good public flagships like UF or UVa.

No intention of not sending my kids to college, how absurd.

I run in these circles and no, we aren’t allowing our kids to be indoctrinated at those schools. We are wealthy and connected already and don’t need to have our kids mix and mingle at northeast elite colleges where they have no intention of making their lives. Back in the day, Ivy etc was all about networking and maybe spending years in Chicago or NY etc but now we feel the cohorts there aren’t people valuable to get to know.

Uneducated comment. According to published exit polls from 2024, 42 percent of Trump voters had at least a college degree.

I think a lot of the republicans influencer podcaster types are discouraging college for boys. Both political parties can be split into the wealthy class and working class. All of the wealthy types are still going to send their kids because they know it’s all about networking your way up to the top. It’s the working class ones that are going to opt out more than they already were.

Wealthy MAGA here also, and this is exactly right. Short of some kind of Shakespearean tragedy, my kids have access to the best networks. They have jobs waiting for them due to family connections. We are looking for schools that will teach them to make good decisions, to work hard, and to present well. You cannot find such an education at the Ivys right now. They are dedicated to churning out zealots. And I say this as an Ivy Leaguer. Those schools have absolutely nothing to offer us anymore.

Will conservatives to Harvard and study Gender or Racism studies?

Have they ever?

The big donors at Harvard the last 50 years really in finance, investing, o&G, life sciences, or tech.

Maybe Obama’s donate to the H law school but they’re career activists living off the govt dole or book royalties.

It's quite hilarious to me that conservatives persist in their notions that things like "gender studies" represent any meaningful percentage of the academic offerings and enrollments at universities.

It's comments like that which betray conservatives as to being out of touch with reality and mainly just getting most of their "information" from right wing talking heads.
