I have been at IRS for 35 years and have never heard of this. Everyone used to dress up more in the early years. Now it is business casual with some people pushing the envelope in jeans. We are non public facing and anything else would be ridiculous. Can you imagine managers behind closed doors...is Cindy's top ok? I am not sure if it is professional. Men are easy. Any button up shirt and a tie I can be fine with..but that top has a bow?? Are bows professional?? We need more specific guidance.

If you all hadn’t been wearing JEANS to work you wouldn’t be in this situation.

That’s fair

I have two kids working in n big tech. Tshirts and jeans are the norm. Shorts in the summer. A collared shirt is dressing up.

Watch out - they might accuse you of being trans!

Is it really that scary to be “accused” of being trans?

You must not be paying attention

Why would you be scared of being called trans?

You sweet, innocent and completely naive person. It's never been safe to be trans. Things got moderately better in past 20 years, and backslid mightily during the 2024 election to present day.

The federal government isn’t going after transgender civil servants. The executive order was only for military.

Anti- trans sentiment was one of the three main issues that led to people voting for this admin. They are definitely not done going after transgender people.

This is all a hypothetical anyway. You’re not going to wear menswear to the office. Even if you actually wanted to, you wouldn’t do it if they’re cracking down on trans people. And even if you did, you could just tell them you’re not transgender. It’s a hypocritical built on a hypocritical built upon a hypothetical built upon a hypothetical built upon something you would never even do (crossdressing at work). You’re fine from whatever anti-trans stuff could be coming. If anything new even does happen. Federal employees don’t have deployment issues like the military.

If a dress code like this is implemented, good luck hiring anyone under 50.

Even those of us over 50 think it's nuts, but at least some of us have older clothes we can dig out from our closets without having to spend money.

99% of people are not against trans people in a workplace. I think it was more the sentiment that any topics of sex should get left at home, along with religion and politics.

The big trans issue was more over which gender they should compete as in sports. That's the one people voted against.

From the executive order. When you read this, you don’t think there will be a ban for civil servants eventually as well?

Beyond the hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved, adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life. A man’s assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.

They might not be going after transgender people directly but they certainly are indirectly. My agency forbids anyone from putting pronouns in their Outlook name and enacted strict limitations on what is allowed in your email signature (only full name, job title, department, and gov cell). That level of nanny state bs was just to get back at trans people and all the "liberals"

Didn’t they put out an EO saying that trans people had to use the bathroom of their sex assigned at birth in all federal buildings?
