What happened to Moderate Dems VA/MD?

Anonymous

It’s a shame that “I don’t agree with you 100% on all things at all times” turns into “I must be a trollfarm agent sowing seeds of dissension.”

The PP is correct - it’s this binary thinking that aggravates moderates.

Whatever you do, don't vote for Lateef.

Certainly, there is no preponderance of extreme organized, far ideology on the left as there is in MAGA and the Republican party as a whole.

To "normies" putting pronouns in your email is extreme. Something that is seen as totally normal among Democrats.

None of them seem particularly moderate and their policy platform issues seem almost identical. I just want a moderate dem that won’t support some of the more unhinged progressive policy agendas. I am looking for one that will respect local voter control over communities (eg. No Tyson’s Casino bills or state level zoning reforms that force density on communities that don’t want it). Someone who is actually reasonable about public safety and doesn’t want to reduce penalties on crime. Also, don’t tell me to vote for Babur Lateef (in the primary) he is super sleazy and will bring nothing good to our state. So out of the other remaining candidates which one is the most moderate?

What happened to the whole Republican Party OP?????

The House bill if and when it passes in the Senate
Makes Trump
King kind of as Unamerican as it gets.

Exactly.

But someone wrote their pronouns in an email so that justifies giving Trump unlimited power.

Alternatively, if someone doesn't indicate their pronouns in an email, they aren't a true Democrat.

OP is not suggesting he wants to vote for Republicans. He's lamenting the lack of good options among Democrats. Moderates (in either party) are getting primaried out. And since we're talking about a primary in this particular case, the fact that there aren't any clear moderates running speaks to a larger issue of the middle lacking representation and being forced to choose between extremes.

I'm a moderate Dem. I don't care what a person's pronouns are and I'll call you whatever you want. But I don't think I should have to put my pronouns in my email signature or Zoom name in order to virtue signal something that you can clearly tell from my name and appearance. And, yes, I know I'm supposed to do it to "stand in solidarity" with people who need pronouns normalized, so they don't get misgendered, but it's ridiculous to state "she/her" when it's obvious and it just trivializes pronouns for those who really need it. Besides which, correcting people on your pronouns is no different than correcting them on any other assumptions they might make about an "invisible" aspect of your self.

All of which is a distraction anyway.

I usually find these local articles where all the candidates answer the same questions helpful in distinguishing them for me. https://wamu.org/story/25/05/13/virginia-lieutenant-governor-democratic-primary-candidates/

Based on this, I'm leaning toward Levar Stoney. He sounds practical.

Rouse going on and on about workforce retraining for government workers impacted by DOGE comes off as tone-deaf. Most of them are already highly skilled and qualified. The problem isn't career training programs; it's not enough jobs for too many very qualified people.

Lateef has a lot of plans for the state's budget surpluses (social safety net programs for DOGEd Federal workers, increased funds for public schools), but what's his plan if we don't have a surplus or not enough surplus to go around?

Bastani sounds like a nut job and his answer to schools calling Fairfax County public schools basically private schools whose resources are going to need to be redistributed isn't going to play well in NOVA.

Is anyone addressing school violence?

Probably the Republican candidates...

To answer your question: they are still there but the far left Progressives took over the Fairfax Dem Committee. Since we have no local news to speak of, unless you pay attention to the School Board, you do not realize it.

they probably want admins/teachers to carry guns. Their answer to violence is more guns.

Can you explain why not? I'm not from Prince William but on the issues he aligns most closely with my priorities.

I won't vote for Hashmi as she takes money from Comstock and supports a casino in NoVa. That's a deal killer for me.

Stoney doesn't seem to inspire a lot of confidence from those who observed his tenure as Richmond mayor, but I could be talked into supporting him.

The other candidates don't have enough name recognition to stand a chance.

Agree! I have to correct people’s pronunciation of my name but I don’t see people writing their names phonetically in their email signature in solidarity. I have to correct folks who think I’m a certain ethnicity or religion but I don’t see people adding their ethnic, religious, or political identities to their signatures. Why only add gender identity—let’s make a list!
