Lots of people will be absolutely delighted with this. And not just MAGA. Anyone across the county who feels Democrats are the party of elitists that demand total belief compliance from everyone. The people who think the Democrats stopped listening to voters. The people who resent Democrats telling them that they have to accept their entire orthodoxy or they are bad people.

You don’t understand it because you are a DCUM Democrat, almost certainly UMC or wealthy, almost certainly a woman, probably white. You are one of the people that everyone else resents because you’ve attempted to shove a belief system you think makes you the best person, better than others, down everyone else’s throats.

Just FWIW, I do not support Trump’s behavior here at all. But the hermetically sealed echo chamber that convinces themselves that everyone agrees with you is wrong here.

Trump is a generationally clever politician. He’s picked an issue where wealthy white Democrat elites are on the opposite side of the rest of nearly the whole country, and he’s using it as a way of demonstrating that the Democratic Party doesn’t listen to its voters, is out of touch, etc. So when he is demanding an apology, people see him as demanding an apology from a bunch of wealthy elitists who believe they are better than everyone else. They don’t see it as bullying. They see it as him fighting for the underdog against power structures and people that hate them.

This is impossible for most DCUM Democrats to understand, however, because it requires them to admit that they are wrong, and not superior people. It requires them understanding that their adherence to political orthodoxy and fundamentalism has alienated large swaths of the voting population. It requires progressives to admit that they are as religious as the fundamentalist Christians, just on different issues. And that’s never going to happen, so you will remain puzzled that most of the rest of the country doesn’t see this quote the way you do.

DP. I don't get it.

Can you show for me, EXACTLY AND SPECIFICALLY, where Kamala Harris or other major Democratic candidates running in 2024 had "put men in womens sports" as part of their campaign platforms or anywhere in their campaign speeches?

Show me something specific and maybe I'll start to get it. If not, maybe you can start to admit you're the one who's wrong and to acknowledge that the GOP ran a massive smear campaign claiming they did. Bob Casey for example lost because of that smear campaign and NEVER ONCE said a single thing about women in mens sports.

So either provide specific evidence if you want me to "get it" or back off and change course.

The fact that Biden tried to change Title IX to redefine sex as gender identity proof enough.
But, you can also add to that - 203 Democrats voted to allow biological men in women's sports instead of protecting women and girls.

I will never understand why anyone thinks this is worse than the fact that Trump tried to overturn an election and inspired an insurrection. It is the pinnacle of whataboutism.

If course it’s not worse. But we refuse to let it go. Which is having terrible consequences for Our Democracy. We’re already 25% of the way to the midterms and most dcurban moms are fighting for trans athletes in girls’ locker riooms instead of dropping that temporarily so we can retake the house. Our priorities reveal that we care more about trans athletes than about saving America from Trumpism.

Why can’t we understand that saving the world is up to us?! We’re sitting around waiting for MAGA to vote against Republicans for us?! We have to do it!

The most important thing now is for us to take back control and restore Democracy. That means we have to give it a rest on trans athletes. We can’t keep fighting for their right to be in girls’ rooms. Yes, they deserve to be there because yes, transwomen are women. But for now, as long as WE are the party pushing that, we’ll lose voters, and Democracy will remain at grave risk. The flyover state voters WILL embrace trans athletes eventually, but not quite yet. We have to decide, do we want to be right, or do we want to save Democracy. History will not look kindly in us if we forfeit elections to monsters over this tiny issue.

We need to start treating this GOP obsession with private parts like the disturbing, obscene, and morally bizarre thing that it is. Stop focusing on kids’ private parts and start focusing on whether you can afford to feed them.

That sounds good but won’t work. We want oenises in girls’ rooms because of our values, swing viters don’t, so Rs will keep reminding them of our policies. We have to drop this temporarily to save Democracy. Yes, Rs are even more obsessed with genitals than we are. But that’s not a winning point right now. We have to normalize trans athletes a little more slowly. Boil the frogs, don’t scald them.

This encapsulates the Democrats' messaging problem last election. Instead of supporting reasonable policy positions, they doubled down on unpopular positions and then called voters unreasonable for not supporting them. Use some self reflection.

The GOP made genitals an issue. Stop making genitals an issue. It’s disgusting, and honestly, you look like thug bullies who have trans panic.

Biden signed an EO on day 1 regarding transgender issues. He also wrote a rule to force schools to include biological males in girls sports or risk their funding. Why was he so obsessed with genitals?

Nevermind the insistence of elected Democrats to call women chest feeders and birthing persons. Completely loony tunes. Oh and not being able to define a woman.

It is absolutely a winning point. They don’t like to be called weirdos and perverts, so that’s what we need to call them. Respond to their juvenilia in kind until they shut up like JD on the couch.

LGBTQIA+ activists struggle to understand how we come across to normies. Our “zing!” Comment about Republicans being obsessed with kids’ genitals seems funny and righteous to us. And even to some normie Dems. But it’s a turnoff to swing voters. Words and ideas they hatefully consider “gross” are coming out of OUr mouths, even though we’re talking a our Republicans. We’re more alternative-sexapositive than swing state swing voters. We haveto keep oura tivism in our pants for 2026 and2028

No one wants to be reminded of how their pet topics are weird. And we’re not targeting the swing voters anyway. We’re targeting the perverts who bring up genitals everyone bad economic news comes out.

Speaking of which, how are the markets doing this week? Anyone else lose 10% of their portfolios? Can’t believe I paid $7/doz for eggs at Costco. They were $2.40/doz back in the summer.

Spoken like an overly-aggressive activist. Our job is NOT to “target” opponents for attacks, it’s to target swing voters with policies they like so we can win elections and save democracy. Calling Republicans sex perverts for objecting to our policies may be psychologicallysatisfying, but it is strategically unsound.

It was all blown out of proportion by both sides in relation to the percentage of trans people in society. These people deserve to live their lives peacefully and without persecution. That being said, you can’t have it all and they should stay out of sports. Sometimes you don’t get everything you want. That is life.

However it’s disingenuous to say that Trump and the GOP are interested in protecting women’s rights. They aren’t. Trump is a sex offender. He has no respect for women. He has gone out of his way to strip the rights of women. He’s a convicted felon. He staged an attempted coup of the United States. He issued mass pardons for convicted felons. This man is not interested in helping anyone but himself.

Agree. I think Democrats are saddled with an albatross here, unfortunately. It's hard to walk this back to common sense now, but they should try. I think a lot of the more extreme positions were attributed to Democrats when the majority didn't necessarily support those positions. And as the mother of two teenagers that both went through a period of "am I trans?", I honestly have mixed feelings about a lot of the messaging and the insistence among trans activists that you have to accept the word of your 13 year old without question. Even the medical community was irresponsible in this arena.

But sure let’s vote for the guy that wants to burn our democracy to the ground, wreak absolute havoc because he is a bitter that he didn’t get the praise and adulation he thinks he deserves. Most people with common sense would totally dismiss someone like this in any other setting. It is just beyond comprehension.

💯 Because all they do is fine someone new to blame. Nuts the oldest tactic in the book for riling people up and distracting them.

We just can’t stop. Because Trump is bad and voters are stupid, we don’t think we should have to walk back anything. So we haven’t. So we’re saddled with several albatrosses. And we’re poised to keep losing elections. Unscrupulous Republican strategists are going to force MAPs into the discourse next, and activists are going to safdle Democrats with the worst albatross if all. Dems may be doomed.

We actually are doing the right thing for trans folks longer term. They will be fully normalized and accepted by almost everyone within a decade. But if we can’t deprioritize it a bit, it will come at a cost of Republican contil for next 12 years. We just have to decide what our priorities are and what timelines we can accept

They didn't have to put it into a campaign speech because Biden actually tried to implement it as a rule applied to Title IX:

"The proposed rule — which would have required states to allow biological males who identify as female to compete in girls’ and women’s sports — is separate from an extended civil rights protections rule for LGBTQ students under Title IX, which is still being challenged."

Biden backed off once there was an uproar.

What are you quoting from? The proposed rule did not say this. It said that in making these decisions, schools needed to take into account factors like grade, sport, and level of competition.

It absolutely did say this. And tied funding to whether or not the school complied. Elementary schools were basically required to comply and middle and high schools had the veneer of flexibility but you know how that would have gone if they chose not to allow trans girls on the girls teams.

This may be your belief and the narrative you have chosen to propagate, but again, it’s absolutely not what the proposed rule said.

This #bothsidesing is false. In the 2024 political season ONLY ONE SIDE was repeatedly bringing up trans issues, over and over and over, ad nauseam. It was Republicans. I did not hear one single Democrat in 2024 actively talking about trans issues. That's not gaslighting or denial, it's reality.

Sure, because the Democrats had just implemented wildly unpopular policies which rollled back title 9, put men in women’s prisons, and allowed men and boys in women’s sports and locker rooms. Of course they were not trying to highlight these issues which are unpopular with 75% of the electorate. But they did implement these policies and pretending otherwise by ‘not talking about it’ is not a virtue or free pass to escape the consequences of unpopular decisions.
