This Trump quote on Maine

Anonymous
Dems are incoherent on trans issues. They push men in drag into women’s spaces, deny they are doing it, call Republicans pervs, observably lie and gaslight. And not even conservative Dems ever express any doubts about the trans push, gender affirming care, men in the girls’ rooms, etc. Pushing something while denying you’re doing ut is unlikable behavior. Swing voters aren’t enjoying the lying from Democrats. It’s a home run for Republicans. It stinks. We’d all like to support trans athletes withoit paying any price for it at the ballot box. But we are paying a price. Maybe-it’s worth it. Trans folks are important.

The Governor of Maine has been a great champion for Democrats and transwomen in girls’ sports. Democrats do not and should not back down on justice for marginalized groups. The voters will meet us where we are eventually.

It was all blown out of proportion by both sides in relation to the percentage of trans people in society. These people deserve to live their lives peacefully and without persecution. That being said, you can’t have it all and they should stay out of sports. Sometimes you don’t get everything you want. That is life.

However it’s disingenuous to say that Trump and the GOP are interested in protecting women’s rights. They aren’t. Trump is a sex offender. He has no respect for women. He has gone out of his way to strip the rights of women. He’s a convicted felon. He staged an attempted coup of the United States. He issued mass pardons for convicted felons. This man is not interested in helping anyone but himself.

Sure. But you don’t get to control how people think — a tough lesson indeed for DCUM Democrats — and as it turns out, a lot of the electorate doesn’t like what the Democrats have to say. You can stamp your feet all you like about how people shouldn’t care about trans girls in girls’ sports. That isn’t going to make them not care.

I sometimes think the rage trans activists and DCUM Democrats feel about the fact that trans rights has become such an issue is the rage of someone who has heard “no” for the first time in their life. It has an air of entitlement: what do you mean you care about this issue I have deemed unimportant? How dare you care about something that I, your better and your superior, do not consider important?

Lots of people will be absolutely delighted with this. And not just MAGA. Anyone across the county who feels Democrats are the party of elitists that demand total belief compliance from everyone. The people who think the Democrats stopped listening to voters. The people who resent Democrats telling them that they have to accept their entire orthodoxy or they are bad people.

You don’t understand it because you are a DCUM Democrat, almost certainly UMC or wealthy, almost certainly a woman, probably white. You are one of the people that everyone else resents because you’ve attempted to shove a belief system you think makes you the best person, better than others, down everyone else’s throats.

Just FWIW, I do not support Trump’s behavior here at all. But the hermetically sealed echo chamber that convinces themselves that everyone agrees with you is wrong here.

Trump is a generationally clever politician. He’s picked an issue where wealthy white Democrat elites are on the opposite side of the rest of nearly the whole country, and he’s using it as a way of demonstrating that the Democratic Party doesn’t listen to its voters, is out of touch, etc. So when he is demanding an apology, people see him as demanding an apology from a bunch of wealthy elitists who believe they are better than everyone else. They don’t see it as bullying. They see it as him fighting for the underdog against power structures and people that hate them.

This is impossible for most DCUM Democrats to understand, however, because it requires them to admit that they are wrong, and not superior people. It requires them understanding that their adherence to political orthodoxy and fundamentalism has alienated large swaths of the voting population. It requires progressives to admit that they are as religious as the fundamentalist Christians, just on different issues. And that’s never going to happen, so you will remain puzzled that most of the rest of the country doesn’t see this quote the way you do.

DP. I don't get it.

Can you show for me, EXACTLY AND SPECIFICALLY, where Kamala Harris or other major Democratic candidates running in 2024 had "put men in womens sports" as part of their campaign platforms or anywhere in their campaign speeches?

Show me something specific and maybe I'll start to get it. If not, maybe you can start to admit you're the one who's wrong and to acknowledge that the GOP ran a massive smear campaign claiming they did. Bob Casey for example lost because of that smear campaign and NEVER ONCE said a single thing about women in mens sports.

So either provide specific evidence if you want me to "get it" or back off and change course.

The fact that Biden tried to change Title IX to redefine sex as gender identity proof enough.
But, you can also add to that - 203 Democrats voted to allow biological men in women's sports instead of protecting women and girls.

I will never understand why anyone thinks this is worse than the fact that Trump tried to overturn an election and inspired an insurrection. It is the pinnacle of whataboutism.

This encapsulates the Democrats' messaging problem last election. Instead of supporting reasonable policy positions, they doubled down on unpopular positions and then called voters unreasonable for not supporting them. Use some self reflection.

+1

Though I do not think the Democrats are capable of self-reflection.

Dem entitlement in trans issues is even funnier than that. It’s “how are you even TALK about something that I, your better and your superior, consider an essential, non-negotiable policy AND too unimportant for others to be allowed to mention.

How about you stop obsessing over private parts, weirdo?

Upper middle class striver Dems have lost the plot. The Shor data shows that swing voters hate upper middle class striver Dems FAR mire than the hate migrants or trans folk. We can’t grok how much the electorate hates us for our haughtiness. We’d do better with all-migrant all-trans spokespeople than continuing to speak ourselves.

Kamala Harris, our erstwhile party leader, still has pronouns in her bio. It may not be popular, but we will never back down from trans issues. They are our values. It’s who we are.

Yes. That incoherency is something to see, that’s for sure. And of course voters see that too.

Have you see all the polling about how untrusted Democrats are? It’s because of things like this. The gaslighting and condescension are unreal.

If course it’s not worse. But we refuse to let it go. Which is having terrible consequences for Our Democracy. We’re already 25% of the way to the midterms and most dcurban moms are fighting for trans athletes in girls’ locker riooms instead of dropping that temporarily so we can retake the house. Our priorities reveal that we care more about trans athletes than about saving America from Trumpism.

But are we?

I haven't read the whole thread, but are there a lot of posters advocating for that? I feel like this is an issue where Democrats are trying to prove a negative. The support for trans athletes in women's sports is not that widespread, but activists on Twitter and a couple of elected officials allow for every Democrat to be painted with a broad brush. Of course, it doesn't help that if you don't support everything trans you are called a bigot.

Agree. I think Democrats are saddled with an albatross here, unfortunately. It's hard to walk this back to common sense now, but they should try. I think a lot of the more extreme positions were attributed to Democrats when the majority didn't necessarily support those positions. And as the mother of two teenagers that both went through a period of "am I trans?", I honestly have mixed feelings about a lot of the messaging and the insistence among trans activists that you have to accept the word of your 13 year old without question. Even the medical community was irresponsible in this arena.

But sure let’s vote for the guy that wants to burn our democracy to the ground, wreak absolute havoc because he is a bitter that he didn’t get the praise and adulation he thinks he deserves. Most people with common sense would totally dismiss someone like this in any other setting. It is just beyond comprehension.

PP and I agree with you too, but most of the voters didn't perceive it that way. That's reality.

It’s funny how progressives are against women’s bodily autonomy when it comes to bathrooms, locker rooms, sports.
Gender expression being equalized to bio sex is problematic because any guy can say he’s a woman just to get access to little girls
