Relatively little wind is expected. We should be fine to open on-time.

The forecast for 7am on Tuesday is 7 with a wind chill of 1. By 9am, the temps are in the teens. MCPS has demanded indoor recess (rather than allowing individual principals to decide) for cold temperatures several days this year, so it follows that logic that dangerously cold temps for students waiting for buses or walking to school will be considered.

I can't pull up the hourly forecast for Wednesday yet, but it's supposed to be colder, which is why I think there will be another delay.

Are you sure you're looking in the right city? I don't see much of a wind chill in MoCo on Tuesday.

Where in MoCo? It's the largest school district in MD.

Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Clarksburg all say no significant wind.

Please. Go to ANY weather app and read. 18 feels like 1 due to wind and wind chills as low as 5 degrees below zero expected 7pm to 10am Cold Weather Advisory.

Alert Montgomery - Cold Emergency Alert
A Cold Emergency Alert has been issued for Montgomery County from 5pm Sunday, 1/19 until 1pm Thursday, 1/23. Residents should be prepared for wind chill values to be below 20 degrees. These dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes and/or hypothermia. Stay indoors if possible.

Look at the forecast. That's not when kids would be going to school.

Yes, it is.

It's time for you to find a new job if you've resorted to spreading misinformation online to try to get out of 2 hours of work.

With what happened during the last snow storm I won't be surprised if MCPS closed. As for FCPS I think we'll have a 2hr delay.

The way students wear their winter wear or lack there of, and the long wait at the bus stop—have to walk and get there 10 minutes before. And then sometimes the bus is delayed especially if roads are hazardous. With the wind chill does not seem advisable.

Yes, their parents should advise them to wear a winter coat. Otherwise they'd be cold, but still fine.

They can be out in arctic air for half an hour. Doesn’t sound like you’re familiar with the school bus. Unfortunately not everyone is privileged.

Not my problem. You can’t close an entire school district because of a few. Well here you can but in rational place you don’t.

I don’t think they will get anything from a delay. With a high of 20 tomorrow and 19 on Wednesday, it will not get above freezing to melt anything. Either they open on time both days or they close both days.

Delays are popular with teachers- that's what they get.

From what I understand delays aren’t that great for them either since there is no recess and maybe no breaks during the day with short lunch. But ok….

You mean not working for two hours and getting paid for the full day isn’t a break? Please.

(And I’m a teacher. Please don’t saddle this nonsense post on me and my colleagues.)

A lot of us just work the full day anyway, capitalizing on the rare 2 hours of extra work time. There are a lot of us who show up regular time on delay days for this very reason.

(And I’m also a teacher.)

We’re on the same page. Anyone who thinks teachers are filing their nails or eating bonbons on a “break” from students during the workday is sadly misinformed. I love my breaks from kids because it means I can do the other parts of my job in peace.

DP. Not bonbons but teachers are drinking starbuck drinks.

What the hell is your point? Now teachers can't pick up coffee before school? Truly out of touch with reality. No wonder everyone is quitting teaching.

Back to the original question. Yes I think there is a chance of opening time. In fact it is more likely will based on lower amounts of snow fall than expected.
Small chance of delay due to single digit temps when kids are getting ready for school.

75% on time
25% delay

Quite the opposite. Remember when people here were freaking out about MCPS opening? And then when they did it was fine?

Not sure I got that post, either. Yes, I occasionally pick up Starbucks as I head to school. Is that not allowed? Does that somehow make me a lazy teacher? I don’t get it.

This. You don't close schools because some kids would rather be a little cold at the bus stop than wear a winter coat.

Whatever weird flex you think this is, it ain't it. Fortunately, you have absolutely zero say in what teachers do.
