But the doctors ARE the ones deciding if it is an emergency.

Katie’s Cox doctor didn’t feel it was an emergency. Why is this so hard to understand? SHE went to court against the state because she wanted to be granted a medical exception.

Please find a case where a doctor preformed an abortion because they deemed a situation a medical emergency and were then found guilty of providing an illegal abortion.

why on earth would a doctor put their practice on the line, including jail time, to provide what they deem "medical emergency" when a lawyer can decide what is or is not an emergency?

I hope you or your loved one never finds themselves in this position. Or maybe you should so that you have some empathy for these women. Seems like some people have to learn the hard way.

And let's be clear about this -- if they risk an investigation (not even a conviction, but a complaint made by anybody leading to an investigation), then their license is likely to be suspended, their privileges suspended, and all their other patients left in the cold without care.

What if you are the “other patient” coming next with the same issue? Same doctor will still leave you to die. There needs to be transparency in care. Yes gop are 100 percent at the root of the problem, but women should not be faced with doctors who refuse to save their lives. Clearly some doctors do intervene faster still, and not all women get treated the same way. I suspect they intervene a lot faster if the woman seems wealthy and with means to sue.

Then you, also, deserve to live under better laws that allow doctors to practice medicine.

Hey, blame doctors all you want, but if you are going to make sure they are punished no matter what they do, they will leave. They will leave by retiring, or moving to blue states, or taking a different job, or just restricting their practice to non-obstetrical gynecology.

You can't force doctors to be the sacrificial lamb for your policies here, and you shouldn't. You should let them just be doctors and do their jobs as they were trained.

You neglect to mention that in Kate Cox's case, she had already had two C-sections putting her at higher risk of uterine rupture along with being unable to have another child which she desired to do after that pregnancy. Furthermore, she was carrying an infant with trisomy 18 among other complications; carrying trisomy 18 is associated with higher risk of gestational diabetes, preterm delivery to include emergent csection. No, she was not in immediate risk. However, not granting her an abortion did mean increased risk for her of which uterine rupture is significant. I would get an abortion in her shoes without hesitation.

I do not understand your casual dismissal of this case.

My mom follows right leaning media and is never informed of any of these cases and when I send her the articles she says she doesn't have time to read them

I want a man to go to the emergency room but not be knocking on death's door and be refused care until he is. I don't care what the issue is. Heart attack stroke choking wait until that man is about ready to cross over the line and then step in and offer him some options

Pp, like all forced birthers, doesn’t think women are people worthy of consideration.

I have never voted gop and the blame does lie with them (I stated so). I think you sound extremely callous in your view though. You are literally stating that a doctor’s license suspension is more valuable than a woman’s life.

Voting for Republicans is incompatible with healthcare. Sorry, but Republican voters need to recognize and accept these consequences.

I'm stating that suspending a doctor's license means that other patients will go without care and, potentially die.

When that same doctor can keep practicing elsewhere without suspension and interruption of care, why is that worse? I'm not suggesting they go put their feet up on OnlyFeet or something. But to take care of as many people as possible, they need to be able to practice medicine. They cannot do that in these red states.

They can, however, take care of these SAME women if they are practicing in blue states, because that's where women have to go.

Believe me, I don't think more patients should go without care. But with a national doctor shortage, I'm absolutely fine with them going to where they can see the most patients possible and also maintain standard of care. I don't blame them for that.

Kate Cox's doctor recommended an abortion. He couldn't do it because of the law said she couldn't get one unless she was on death's door.

If the Republicans ban gender-affirming care there goes Viagra. And Rogaine.

No, nothing that makes life softer and easier for men would ever get banned.

But women have to die.

Ok, so women are being left to die while their fetus likely suffers as well. And kids are being shot up in their classrooms. Isn’t this a small price to pay to avoid having a female president who laughs and does not have her McDonalds pay stub?

(Clarifying that this is sarcasm since it is so hard to tell these days)
