If you're just starting, eat lots of vegetables and fruit and protein. If you drink alcohol, drink just a little til you see what you can tolerate. You'll be surprised at how little you want to eat. But yeah, the best thing you can do to cut down on side effects is vegetables and high protein. |
I’ve been on it for seven weeks and I’ve lost 11 pounds and I feel that is a healthy pace. I haven’t had any negative reactions on .50 and I will move up to 1.00 in two weeks. It must be working though I haven’t felt a big loss in appetite. I think slow and steady is a good way to go because a much bigger and quicker weight loss wouldn’t be sustainable long term. I think you need to get use to eating less to be able to sustain it. |
I’m down 12 pounds in six weeks and I feel that is a very good pace. If I can keep us this pace for another ten weeks I will be very happy. |
Where can you actually find it in this area? Our Walgreens never has it. |
Has anyone come off of it and maintained weight loss? I follow a few instagrammers who say they did!!! I want to know if it is possible. Alternatively, has anyone slowly tapered off then just done a monthly maintenance dose?? I only need to lose 30 lbs but have been trying to lose the same 30
Lbs for 10 years!!!! |
I'm wondering about this too. I'm not a good candidate--have lost 25 pounds on my own and only want to lose 5-10 more. But I'm wondering if the same issues with maintenance and potential metabolism slow-down apply when you do Wegovy. |
I believe the research is showing that most regain the weight they lost, relatively quickly, upon discontinuing the medication. And, like pretty much all diets, many will also gain a bit more than they lost. To avoid this, most will likely need a maintenance dose of Wegovy -- for a long time if not for life, to maintain the weight loss. What the insurance companies are going to say about paying for it for that long is going to be interesting. But I don't think anyone has figured out what the standard of care will be with this. My doctor says it's a life-long medication as obesity is a chronic condition. But like I said, we'll see what gets hammered out between big pharma, insurance companies/Medicare interests, and the medical establishment regarding standard of care after weight loss. |
The interesting thing is there are several (proven) weight loss drugs that have been around for decades that nobody really talks about or seems interested in. Phentermine-topiramate (Qsymia), these have been around for 30+ years. But they do require some effort on the part of the person taking them, which is of no interest to anyone. |
I've been on both phentermine and Topamax. Phentermine made me too jittery to concentrate at work and Topamax gave me such bad brain fog that I was literally losing my keys all day (doctors call it "dope-a-max" for a reason). I am great at putting in "some effort." In fact, I'm pretty good at having a healthy diet (I have severe medication related weight gain). The drugs you mention are not tolerated well by everyone, and I would bet that a large percentage of those on Wegovy have already tried them at some point -- so your need to drop them here in this condescending way in an attempt to educate people is quite unnecessary. |
GLP 1 agonists require some effort. They completely change the way you eat and kind of train track you into ordered eating. Everyone I know using them is rocking weight loss with healthy eating, healthy activities and exercise and no drugs or alcohol. If you continue this after you get off then the weight will stay off maybe. |
Have you ever tried those drugs? Phentermine raises BP, and only works for a limited amount of time. I know because I tried it more than once. That is one of the reasons why my insirance covers Wegovy. Why do you deem it somehow more worthy of people using than the new ones? Do you honestly think we are sitting around eating cookies, popping pills and waiting for the weight to melt off? I am in the gym five days a week. Many of us were active with decent nutrition before, but our hormones, history, illnesses or other medications made it very difficult to lose weight. So mind your business and keep your snark to yourself. |
All of these drugs are a miracle, but my family member who is on one now looks ten years older since losing the weight so quickly |
+1 Those meds are trash. Qsymia will literally have forgetting your husband’s name and unable answer simple questions. Phentermine was great when it the “fen” attached to it, on its own, trash. It stops working in about 90 days and give you the shakes. |
