Yes, you can't force girls to study STEM if they are not interested. Just like not many boys enter teaching or nursing (nursing in particular pays quite well). But we see no efforts to get more boys into those fields, and plenty of effort to get girls into certain fields. Boys are pretty much ignored.

Actually boys are really going into nursing now that it’s a pretty well compensated field. But my point isn’t to force girls into Stem. It’s that there are still a lot of social pressures pushing girls away from stem. It’s still considered geeky which is a worse condemnation for a teen girl than a teen boy. The internet is really unwelcoming to girls—see all the online harassment of women in gaming. And the majority of games are still made by and for males which really makes the teen tech world very male dominated. There’s a lot of funneling that pulls girls out of tech and moms are part of the problem. None of the UMC feminist moms I know are really encouraging their girls to get involved in CS or engineering, except the Asian ones. Why don’t UMC women of other races care about this? I don’t know. They are all buying legos and looking for coding camps for their boys. It drives me nuts. I was a girl mathlete in the 80s….i did not think it would still be like this.

Start learning to spell. It’s STEAM, not STEM.

What you are missing is that boys eventually catch up, and of course can also move beyond if they are encouraged to keep moving forward (which isn't happening everywhere the way it used to). They develop slower, and the difference happens to be the most stark just at that point in time when academic performance sets you on the path to the next level. Once you get to college and grad school however, boys finish their brain development and catch up and/or move beyond. This is similar to the research on gifted brains in early childhood: they physically develop more slowly because they are growing more neurons on more surface area.

Indeed. Boys develop later—in some cases they don’t hit peak intellectual capability until late 20s. The current maniacal emphasis on sports above academics is not healthy, nor is the anti-man noise all over this idiotic board, especially considering that about half of the children of the moms on here are boys.

Interesting to see posters conflating two different things. It is entirely possible that girls/women are doing better at the medians and boys men are doing better AND worse on the tails. Men dominating leadership AND the prison population while women dominate the middle is a theoretically explainable possibility.

That men are still POTUS and SCOTUS doesn’t really tell you what is happening in the middle. Likewise, dominance of women in areas like academics doesn’t really tell you anything about tail end distributions.

*yawn* this is such a tired point. If women don’t want to have a child there are plenty of states that will give you an abortion. Unless you’re on of those people on the show “i didn’t even know I was pregnant!” There are options.

Meanwhile, in EVERY state, even if the man made clear super early on…even if there was a “contract” freeing the man from fiscal responsibility… every state will still force men to pay for the child. Also, I don’t understand the wage gap thing? Does this account for the boomer old men outlier CEOs who distort averages so extremely that the difference between the “median” and “average” household income is tens of thousands of dollars? Does it account for SAHMs or does it count them as 0 in the average?

If you’re paid that much less and think it’s unfair, you should tell your boss that.if you’re important enough they’ll pay you more.
