Yes, it's depressing.

The responses here aren't nasty to boys. They are trying to get people like you to get your heads out of your butts.

Boys are fine. They still run the world. Women are still getting the poop end of the stick.

You two really need to get a frickin grip.

Dear lord, can you feminists really not understand the difference between white boomer men, and young millennial and Gen Z boys?

Yeah, you go tell the young black men getting harassed by cops that they rule the world, or the white teen boy in Appalachia who was orphaned by the opioid epidemic who’s town is dying; that THEY rule the world.

Get out of your feminist UMC bubble.

There’s a segment of men dominating in many areas that has unfortunately been extrapolated to be associated with all males.

If you read the article, it states that boys still outperform girls in STEM related subjects. Those types of jobs pay a lot more. So, even if girls are outperforming boys in school, that's not translating into higher paying jobs.

Despite female students outperforming males virtually across the board, this advantage is not necessarily carried through to employment, said Carroll.

Young women are still under-represented in some STEM subjects, have fewer opportunities available and command lower salaries than men.

“We need to figure out why female students are still less likely to pursue technology, engineering and maths, and what the possible implications of these gender-based patterns are for labor markets,” Carroll added.

There are very few jobs women can do without a degree that pays decently. Not so for men. The vocational jobs that pay well tend to be more geared towards men -- plumbers, electricians, and the like. Coupled with the cost of college, a lot of young men don't see the need to go to college or an education in general.

The other reason for the disparity is maturity. Boys mature slower than girls. My DS is a really smart kid. He was in a magnet program in HS. He said that the boys did well (DS and a male friend got straight As), but that they cared less about academics in general. The girls were much more serious students.

I honestly think that girls have been allowed to shine more now in academics, whereas boys have not moved much in terms of academic performance. So, it appears that boys are doing worse than girls, but in reality, it's just that the girls have really stepped up their game. They've been told that they can do whatever they want, and to not let being a female stop them. Boys didn't need that message because they already saw male figures in power positions, as astronauts, etc.. They still do, so I am not sure why boys aren't able to step up.

The first step is admitting there is a problem.

The problem is the parents who are not pushing their boys to step up their game.

To add... if girls have been able to step up their game, why can't the boys? It's either the boys don't care enough or the parents are coddling the boys. Either way, that's a personal problem, not a systemic problem. There is no college or job that won't let in smart boys. This isn't like when colleges wouldn't admit women, or when women were relegated to being a teacher or secretary.

It's funny, you admit there is a problem. However, just blaming the parents, and let's be honest, it's the moms, means that these women haven't stepped up their game, doesn't it?

NP, but what??? No, it's emphatically not the moms. It's the dads. They are either 1) not in the household at all, 2) not able to prepare their kids to participate in a changed social structure because it's not how they were raised, or 3) underperforming and mentally flailing because of the disappearance of union and manufacturing jobs that used to allow even mediocre men to get paid like/live like kings of their own castle.

But your willingness to cast about for a woman to blame when men are the problem is a glaring extension of the problem other posters have pointed out: no standards or accountability for boys, just excuses and coddling.

DP. Yes, it's the moms. They are choosing bad bfs/DHs to get pregnant with and then either marrying/cohabiting-then-divorcing or just raising the child without the father at all.

And it shows.

LOL the existence of bad men is women's fault, those bad men reproducing is women's fault, living with those bad men is women's fault but not living with those bad men is also women's fault.

The best part is you really did make a point here, but it's not the one you meant to make.

You tried, but you're failing to make your point. Lol. Women need a man to make them a better parent? Really? Is your solution outlawing divorce to keep the men at home because the women are turning out inadequate men?

Agree.

Women need to choose men who are true feminists, and who have been raised with real feminist values.

Many men are not sensitive. Nor are they in-touch with the full range of their emotions; many men will not even cry or bawl.

Too many men do not or cannot cook family meals. Still more men are not proficient at house cleaning.

And few men are as involved with caring for infants (diaper changing; feeding) as women are.

Women should seek out better men, who do all these things in the home, plus earn exceedingly high salaries, and stay in shape. And are fun.

The boys aren’t okay? Are they forced to give birth against their will? Do they make less than women for the same amount of work? Girls excelling college doesn’t even matter. Boys are still rewarded for their mediocrity. According to US Gov: “Education is not enough to eliminate the gender wage gap. On average, women have more years of education and are more likely than men to have completed Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees. Yet there is a significant gender wage gap at every level of education. Overall, women must complete one additional degree in order to be paid the same wages as a man with less education.” Oh, your poor boys! https://blog.dol.gov/2023/03/14/5-fast-facts-the-gender-wage-gap#:~:text=Stats.,for%20Black%20and%20Hispanic%20women.

"Your poor boys?" Maybe women are getting too many worthless degrees and should go into more trades like the men if they want to earn more? Why are you making the assumption men are mediocre if they make more money? But also, women get rewarded for mediocrity too. For example, Claudine Gay.

DP. You are too stupid to contribute to this discussion. Worthless degrees? The point is they get paid less when they have the SAME degree and the SAME job.

Come back when you can put together a coherent statement...and that will be never. Buh-bye.

Triggered much? How can they be paid the same when you just pointed out women have MORE degrees? That's not the same degree for the same job. You're comparing apples and oranges.

DP. We get triggered because you are either purposely obtuse, or more likely just stupid. Women get paid less for doing exactly the same job. “Breaking those figures down, within-job differences — or pay for jobs that are substantially the same, for the same employer — were smaller than the overall gap yet still substantial. Women make 7% less than their male counterparts doing the same work for the same company in Denmark and France, and 26% less in Japan. For the U.S., the figure was 14%; in Spain, the gap was slightly smaller at 12%.”

Not true among younger workers. You're stuck in an ancient mindset comparing boomers to everyone else. Boomer men have nothing to do with young men today, which is what we're talking about. The girls are doing alright.

"In fact, in 22 of 250 U.S. metropolitan areas, women under the age of 30 earn the same amount as or more than their male counterparts"

"In both the New York and Washington metro areas, young women earn 102% of what young men earn when examining median annual earnings among full-time, year-round workers. In the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro area, the median earnings for women and men in this age group were identical in 2019."

Where a gap persists they found men are working more hours than women, thus earning more.

Wow. You truly are one mediocre man. Did you think I wouldn’t click on your link? You cherry picked your data. In the same article: “The gender wage gap is narrower among younger workers nationally, and the gap varies across geographical areas. In fact, in 22 of 250 U.S. metropolitan areas, women under the age of 30 earn the same amount as or more than their male counterparts, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of Census Bureau data.” Now tell me about the 228 metro areas where women make less.

Says someone who hasn’t read any of the studies and is fully confident in their opinion in the way that only a mediocre male can be.

Says someone who hasn't kept up with recent data.

Oh, you mean the article you posted from March 2022, that cited a Pew Study that found that the vast majority of women under 30 in 250 metropolitan areas made less than men? That one? The one that says this: “ Nationally, women under 30 who work full time, year-round earn about 93 cents on the dollar compared with men in the same age range, measured at the median. As these women age, history suggests that they may not maintain this level of parity with their male counterparts. For example, in 2000, the typical woman age 16 to 29 working full time, year-round earned 88% of a similar young man. By 2019, when people in this group were between the ages of 35 and 48, women were earning only 80% of their male peers, on average. Earnings parity tends to be greatest in the first years after entering the labor market.” Thanks for proving my point.

Women work part-time, men don't. So men make more, are more stressed, are unhealthier, die earlier.

Feminists want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to be paid more and work less. Nice gig if you can get it.

DP. It's right there. In the 228 metro areas where men make more than women make, the men are working more hours.

Women work part-time, men don't. So men make more, are more stressed, are unhealthier, die earlier.

Feminists want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to be paid more and work less. Nice gig if you can get it.

- woman who works part-time and makes less than her DH, who works full time

That PP accuses anyone who dares to disagree with her incorrect information is a man. How cute! But if she was at all educated about any of this she would know the pay disappears when controlling for job title, hours worked, industry, experience, education etc. Women make different choices. Doesn't matter how many degrees you have when you choose low paying, flexible hour careers.

It's twofold. Yes, girls are stepping up and shining in school. But no, boys are not standing still, they are stepping back.

Not sure why you think this is good for your daughters. Unless you figure all of your daughters will just move in together, be childless and promote the sisterhood.

The end of the human race? In our children's lifetime?

lol! You think men will stop donating sperm?!

Boys are developmentally about 12-18 months behind girls in my observation, and school is requiring much more focus and academic skill in the younger years than it used to. But just like they catch up in height, boys catch up intellectually.

It's what happens in the interim, the time between now and the catch up, that is concerning. What's the best thing to do? I have a 7-year-old now and he was always the rowdiest kid from about 2-4. And now I've realized those settings just weren't matching his needs. But he's also just naturally matured over time. He's no longer the rowdiest kid, but he is antsy and I'm annoyed because I see him and how he behaves and it's obvious he's bored. His teachers annoy me because they just don't seem to get it. My mother says she sees so much of my older brother in him who was prescribed Ritalin. He didn't like how it made him feel so my mom took him off and now he's a high-level engineer with his own successful company. My brother caught up, but school (back in the 90s) was a wreck for him.

Well said.

Or tell the suburban D.C. area boy, who consumes modern social media, movies, and online content, where men are constantly portrayed as useless buffoons, while Women are portrayed as the intelligent, responsible, and brave ones.

Agree: in this thread there may be only a few people (or maybe just one person responding over and over), but there is a serious case of a responder who is living in a feminist bubble.

A distorted, toxic, feminist bubble. OP is right: the boys are not all right.

I think there’s at least one person who’s sock puppeting and posting extremely inflammatory things on both sides. However I also think there’s more than a few women in this thread posting stuff almost as bad.

This is DCUM, a hub and hotbed of misandry. All you gotta do is browse the relationships forum. 🤮🤮

Probably a small but virulent crowd of 50+ year old overweight cat ladies that are divorced that's the loudest regarding all things male.

Misandry is out of control on DCUM.

Misandry is a form of sexism the women here not only tolerate, they actively promote it.
