Boys are not all right

From kindergarten on, boys lag girls in every grade in every subject except math where they perform similarly.

Something somewhere has gone horribly wrong.

Girls are outperforming boys at all levels of education from kindergarten to college, according to new research.

The findings will reinforce fears that not only are boys lagging behind girls by the time they graduate, but that they are at a disadvantage right from the start of their formal schooling.

While the high school gender gap has caused concern for some time, the Cambridge University study based on U.K. data is one of the few to identify the differences at all stages of education

The only subject where boys consistently did better than girls was math, but this was only apparent at the highest levels of attainment.

“The most striking pattern from the analysis was that sex gaps were present from the earliest stages of education to the latest,” said Matthew Carroll, who led the research.

Maybe it's parenting and parents and schools dumbing down boys, insisting on holding them back, etc. Its not surprising at all.

+1

Excusing bad behavior, refusing to discipline, little character education, these are parenting issues that hurt our boys.

Are the above PPs parents of girls only? I have a boy who is and will be well above average due to luck and privilege. But I can’t imagine being so cavalier and dismissive of other boy parents.

Give me a call when the President and Vice President are both women, the Supreme Court are all women, Wall Street and industry are led by women, the military, science, academia, medicine, etc.

Boys are fine. Even mediocre boys and men are advantaged over women.

Are we allowed to say this anymore?

Anyway, I don’t disagree. DS is doing fine but this has been a subject of interest for many years.

One reason why I’m glad DC are in same-sex high schools. not a perfect solution, but I feel it helps. Helps the girls also, so a wonderful-win.

The current president is 81.

You're not concerned about any boye younger than 80? How about some concern for girls who are going to be stuck with only mediocre boys in their future? Can you muster some concern for them?

Pumping them full of Ritalin and Adderall isn’t helping, when the better thing to do would be to get them off their Xboxes and outside running around.

It is mostly an accepted truism now. Don't know where these misandrist posters have sprung from.

My DS was behind in reading until 3rd grade. Now in HS, he is ranked within the top 5 of his class and got a 5 on the History AP exam.

The problem with our society is the emphasis on sports with boys. While my son participates in sports, we never watch games at home and I’m not sure if anyone in our family could tell you what sport the Wizards play. We DGAF about sports! My DS is nationally ranked in his sport but we would be disappointed if he played in college.

Or at least get them a PS5!

How many others in the top 5 are boys? Or top 10 or top 20?

Exactly.
