It would be GREAT if tonight ended up as a rebuke of Youngkin.

He staked his political future on the outcomes of tonight. He’s done. What a swing and a miss. Between this and his embarrassing comment that the midterms would “send a message” to Biden it’s plainly obvious he doesn’t have his finger on the pulse of the electorate.

Clearly the fearmongering about crime and trannies failed. What phantom menace will Republicans try to scare voters about in 2024?

I'm not a Youngkin fan, but if he wants a political future I think he still has one - but Trump has to lose the '24 election for it to be a possibility. Youngkin can walk away for a couple of years and then reappear as a conservative stalwart in the mode of conservatism prior to Trump's entry on the scene. He can also seek to be more moderate in VA his remaining time in office. I'd argue that Youngkin is not in a terrible place politically if his ultimate goal is higher office in '28 or beyond.

Nope. The 15 week promise killed his chances on the national stage.

If he runs for any kind of office, his promise to sign whatever abortion ban makes it to his desk will play in a loop. He has terrible political instincts anyway, doubling down on that, on the eve of the election.

Just wait till the same day registration votes come in from VA HD-41. And HD-97 is still in play! All my calls and door knocking were worth it. And I'm not stopping. 2024, look out.

Thank you thank you thank you from someone who wasn’t able to volunteer this year because my dad has been in and out of the hospital for two months. You and everyone like you make a difference. ❤️🇺🇸

See 23:26 on the prior page for an explanation of why.

Maybe although that would be framed as a “comeback.” And I don’t think he is a Bill Clinton kind of comeback kid. His political instincts just aren’t particularly good.

+1. He only won because everything aligned perfectly. NOVA moms were furious over the Dem Governor letting school closings drag on for a full year, McAuliffe was not paying attention to that issue, was not talking to suburban women and was not that well liked to begin with. Plus, he had the “what parents want doesn’t matter” line. Which was infuriating to many of us felt like he was brushing away the very real damage closing schools for that long had done to our kids. Of course, Youngkin and Rs took to mean a single parent can dictate the English curriculum and contents of the school library, which is not where most NOVA parents are.

If suburban women were not so pissed off at the Dem leaders in VA over school closings. Or, if we had a better candidate than McAuliffe, Youngkin wouldn’t have won. He’ll never win again, because he’ll never get that lucky again.

Plus, he seemed very NOVA palatable moderate, business friendly, socially moderate, which can work in VA. Of course, he was not that at all. But, he had no political track record. Now, he does.

I don't necessarily disagree. I just think a Trump loss will throw the GOP into even further chaos and they will have a hard time coalescing around anyone currently on the national stage. Youngkin can get a couple of bi-partisan wins before the end of his term and then go do good works and re-emerge as a traditional WASP Republican.

To be clear, I define political future as credibly competitive in a statewide or nationwide election. Not that he'd win the GOP nomination for President.
