Drunk drivers need to be put away for a long time. No apologies, especially in 2023 when there are Ubers/Lyfts, etc. at the touch of a screen.

Excuses in order:

It was a mistake. The driver shouldn't spend his life in jail for a simple mistake.
There was no intent. He couldn't understand the consequences of exceeding the speed limit slightly.
Why are they allowing people to drive golf carts on the road? Roads are dangerous and golf carts and pedestrians should stay away from them.

Golf carts also have no lights. They should not be on the road and they are hard to see.

Not true. Street legal (and actually all as far as I know) carts have lights, wipers, turn signals, etc

Please click on the link on page 9 and take a look at the golf cart in the actual accident. Please hightlight for us the lights you know about.

People use golf carts illegally (not that this one was) here in NOVA. I really wish they wouldn’t. It’s kids. They think they are cool. It’s so dangerous.

He has done interviews and he doesn't have any visible injuries at this point. He is quite traumatized but he seems to have recovered fairly well physically given the original reports.

He's not crippled for life. Where are you getting this? Yes - painful recovery. Crippled for life - no.

Can we break both your legs, give you a concussion, and see how you do?

Been there done that and I'm fine. BTW so is he:

Will probably have leg pain for the rest of his life and not be able to be as athletic as previously. (See Tiger Woods)

Mental and physical health are not separate things. He’s survived a horrific trauma and saw his newlywed bride killed. It is fair to say that in all likelihood the ptsd and grief will be impacting him always. Basic understanding of trauma and recovery tells us this.

Police say there are two different types of golf carts: the traditional golf carts similar to the ones found at a golf course and low-speed vehicles (LSVs), which is the type that was involved in Friday’s fatal collision that left 34-year-old Samantha Miller dead, and her new husband, Aric Hutchinson, fighting for his life just hours after their wedding.

LSVs must have lights, department of transportation-approved seatbelts, as well as meet several other state requirements.

Officials say it appears the victims in Friday’s deadly crash were following these regulations, but they’re still working to learn more information.

“They did have their lights on,” Gilreath said. “The lights were on when the officers arrived, but as far as their use of seatbelts, I do not know.”

… The vehicle had rolled over several times after the crash, and her husband was thrown 100 yards, according to family members.…
The groom may be home but while the legs will heal a traumatic head injury can be for life. Thrown 100 yards with all those injuries… yes he is in for a very long recovery road. Not to mention losing his wife.
I doubt he is fine.

Sorry. DCUM has spoken. No visible injuries, he's 100% fine.

+100

Plus, the trauma will haunt him and emotionally "cripple" him for years.

I talked with my brother who is a doctor. He said “ alcohol level of 2.61 very very high. Especially for a woman with a small frame. That’s black out drunk. She probably won’t remember anything when she sobers up. She’s probably wondering why she’s in jail. Also definitely an alcoholic to even be conscious at that level. Drunk driver kills innocent victim. “
