Now the mother of the bride is suing her daughter’s widower for the entire estate.
https://nypost.com/2023/12/05/news/dead-bride-samantha-millers-husband-mom-fight-over-estate/ She claims there “was no way the couple could’ve consummated the marriage before the accident which killed her, therefore the marriage is null and void and she rather than the husband is entitled to the marital estate”…. Unbelievable. The depths some women will stoop to is breathtaking. |
| Wait, what? If the marriage is null then the bride's family has pretty much no claim to the other family's stuff.... |
You are correct. Golf carts come with all sorts of add-on gadgets like lights, wipers, turn signals. AMA. Ours is very elementary and does nothing but take you to the course and back. If you are lucky |
The marriage is certainly not null. It was legal the instant a duly-recognized and authorized wedding official proclaimed them husband and wife. |
Did she think the couple had taken a vow of celibacy until the wedding night?
|
What, you don’t think that happens? |
No, I don’t
I dated a super-religious girl for a while in college. She was very insistent that she be a virgin on her wedding night, but we had oral and anal sex all the time. It always seemed silly to me, but I kept my mouth shut about it. So no, I don’t think anyone has a vow of celibacy anymore. |
| Seems like the MIL would get 100 percent of a judgement/settlement by the bride’s estate if the marriage is void, so maybe that’s what she’s after? But assuming they signed the marriage certificate and it was officiated properly, she doesn’t have a case. Lack of consummation would only matter if one spouse sought to annul; a third party can’t argue invalidity due to lack of time to consummate. |
| The groom offered to split the estate with his MIL and she sad no. She is vile. |

This is why we should have couples consumate their marriage in front of a duly authorized government official. |
