I saw this and it is absolutely horrific. It upsets me even more knowing that when something similar happened here in the DC area - great kid killed by drunk driver - there were defenders of the drunk driver here in DCUM. Disgusting. Drunk drivers need to be put away for a long time. No apologies, especially in 2023 when there are Ubers/Lyfts, etc. at the touch of a screen.
Excuses in order: It was a mistake. The driver shouldn't spend his life in jail for a simple mistake. There was no intent. He couldn't understand the consequences of exceeding the speed limit slightly. Why are they allowing people to drive golf carts on the road? Roads are dangerous and golf carts and pedestrians should stay away from them.
Golf carts also have no lights. They should not be on the road and they are hard to see.
Not true. Street legal (and actually all as far as I know) carts have lights, wipers, turn signals, etc
Please click on the link on page 9 and take a look at the golf cart in the actual accident. Please hightlight for us the lights you know about.
Different poster here. See this article: https://www.counton2.com/news/local-news/fbpd-details-golf-cart-safety-rules-regulations-following-fridays-fatal-crash/
Police say there are two different types of golf carts: the traditional golf carts similar to the ones found at a golf course and low-speed vehicles (LSVs), which is the type that was involved in Friday’s fatal collision that left 34-year-old Samantha Miller dead, and her new husband, Aric Hutchinson, fighting for his life just hours after their wedding.

LSVs must have lights, department of transportation-approved seatbelts, as well as meet several other state requirements.

Officials say it appears the victims in Friday’s deadly crash were following these regulations, but they’re still working to learn more information. “They did have their lights on,” Gilreath said. “The lights were on when the officers arrived, but as far as their use of seatbelts, I do not know.”

a picture is worth a 1000 words
