FCPS statement on NMF issue

She told the entire world he was not a NMF. And that being commended would have been such a big deal for him. It’s not okay to do that to your child.

He better hope that admissions officers don't google him. Hopefully she moves on and harasses the administration of whatever college is willing to deal with her family

And this is not some random corporate money making opportunity, but one of the most well known academic awards in the country, albeit not the Commended status.

But how hard would it be for that company to just email the kids the info? This is the thing.

They do it for the real winners; the semi-finalists get notifications from the College Board. Maybe they view commended as being worthless. All it signifies is that a kid did well on the PSAT. Does anyone really care? Do colleges that ignore SATs and ACTs really care about a years old PSAT score?

There are about 3X more commended students than semifinalists, but all are in the top 4% of test takers. I think some of the Democrats are going to regret the dismissive way they referred to kids whose academic records are, with few exceptions, far above and beyond the accomplishments of politicians like Stella Pekarsky, Laura Jane Cohen, Karl Frisch, etc.

And, many would be semi-finalists in another state.

Then go live in those states.......wah, wah, wah......

Somehow, expecting the school system to do something they should be happy and pleased to do bothers you?

Distributing literature from an organization whose primary function is to sell student information to marketers so that kids can receive years of junk mail?

You're clearly too cool for school, but this nihilism in the service of a blatantly left-wing political agenda won't work out well in the end.

More Republican lies.

Do you get paid by the lie?

Not a Republican but it’s repugnant that we have people like Nardos King on the payroll who do little but post Tweets on Hayfield basketball players while academic success in FCPS is regularly denigrated by Democratic hacks. FCPS is a joke.

The only people denigrating FCPS are POS republicans.

I personally talked with the college counselor about this a few years ago, when they failed to notify families timely. Ultimately, the College Board should be making the notifications.

The kid knows what their score is. Once the ranges are released, they can easily check themselves.

This has not always been the case--which is why the schools have habitually followed the same policy. However, not everyone knows that it can be "checked." The cutoff scores vary from state to state. In other words, a "commended" student in Virginia may be a semi-finalist in Mississippi.

Nevertheless, how difficult is it for the school to hand out the certificates in a timely manner? Not difficult at all.

Sure, but now define timely manner. Some schools have traditionally waited until late Oct/early Nov to give them out at a ceremony. Those schools got slammed. You just can't win.

They could do it the same week the semi-finalists are announced.

Or…I don’t know…MAYBR COLLEGE BOARD CAN DO IT THEMSELVES.

Well, I have no idea who you are--I'm not the only one on here criticizing FCPS--but, it is clear that you are going to defend FCPS no matter what they do. I disagree with Asra on many things but I don't think it is asking too much for the schools to do their jobs. Too many things are falling through the cracks in this system.

If the future, they should just post the cut offs on a bulletin board in every school and let the kids who care figure it out for themselves

How is it their job to distribute papers for a third party?

How is it their job to give the PSAT test? But, they do. They even pay for it. You'd think they would want to congratulate those who do well.

This is precisely because there are too many things that are under their purview that shouldn't be - and this is a prime example.

This exactly. If FCPS doesn't want to be involved, they should administer the test during the regular school day. My school (not in VA, in the 1990s) did not give the PSAT. I had register, pay, and take it on a Saturday.

I would fault FCPS if this were actually part of their job.

FCPS class of 1988 alum here…Way back in the dark ages, we took the PSAT on a Saturday, registering like you do for SATs.

And guess what FCPS celebrated/notified everyone who was commended and semifinalist. FCPS could handle the task back then. Today, with all the technology, they can’t manage. Ridiculous.

Has this test gotten easier or curved like the SAT? I got Finalist with a much lower score.

Shame on you. Your actions have had a needless, but completely intended, destructive effect on the normal functioning of one of the finest schools and school systems in the country, all to satisfy your thirst for attention and relevance. And then you have the nerve to post on social media belittling the real damage that your crusade has caused to students and teachers who didn’t ask to be included in your nonsense.

Go away.

SO. MUCH. THIS.

Asra and her insane clown posse have stirred up an incredible amount of difficulty for teachers and administrators, between this and the TJ admissions question, and have accomplished literally nothing except the wasting of public dollars. No one’s been fired or even disciplined, two new classes have been seated at TJ with a third coming in the next couple of weeks, and nothing at all has come of any of her “investigations”.

But you know what has happened? She’s doubled her Twitter following and become a regular on Fox News posing as a grassroots parent when she’s actually a paid operative. And she’s made thousands of FCPS employees afraid to properly do their jobs, impacting the lives of countless FCPS students and families.

She is the single worst person in Northern Virginia - and the desperation of her recent communications suggests that she knows it. Her son’s friends certainly do.

FCPS is paying a lot of money to this third party, paying for AP tests and SAT/PSAT.
