Those flyers that are sent out by schools, included a lot more work by staff to include the corporations' material into the flyers. Sometimes thru PTA, others directly by school staff. And this is not some random corporate money making opportunity, but one of the most well known academic awards in the country, albeit not the Commended status.

But how hard would it be for that company to just email the kids the info? This is the thing.

They do it for the real winners; the semi-finalists get notifications from the College Board. Maybe they view commended as being worthless. All it signifies is that a kid did well on the PSAT. Does anyone really care? Do colleges that ignore SATs and ACTs really care about a years old PSAT score?

The reason the TJ parents were upset is because they wanted their child to be able to apply Test optional and still look 1/2 intelligent with a “commended” next to their name.

Maybe they can include their cogats instead

Yes, mommy paid a lot of money to prep for that. Don't let it go to waste.

There are about 3X more commended students than semifinalists, but all are in the top 4% of test takers. I think some of the Democrats are going to regret the dismissive way they referred to kids whose academic records are, with few exceptions, far above and beyond the accomplishments of politicians like Stella Pekarsky, Laura Jane Cohen, Karl Frisch, etc.

And, many would be semi-finalists in another state.

Then go live in those states.......wah, wah, wah......

Somehow, expecting the school system to do something they should be happy and pleased to do bothers you?

Leads me to believe that FCPS is incompetent and unable to successfully do a simple task of notifying students of an award. They will probably go hire someone who’s sole job is to notify students now instead of relying on one of the thousands of other Gatehouse employees or administrators.

I wouldn't base competence based on a random, extra request from an external organization. These people were probably busy doing the actual things they were hired to do.

That’s where we disagree. It’s not a “random” extra request. It is a yearly event and has been a yearly event for over 30+ years. At least today some admin could put an annual tickler on their electronic calendar to remember. And it’s an external organization for which FCPS has chosen to participated in the PSAT program with for years. FCPS knows the drill and what the expectations are regarding notifying students. This wasn’t some new requirement.

It’s fine if FCPS doesn’t want to be middleman in the notification process, but they need to work to change process - not just drop the ball like they did.

Distributing literature from an organization whose primary function is to sell student information to marketers so that kids can receive years of junk mail?

You're clearly too cool for school, but this nihilism in the service of a blatantly left-wing political agenda won't work out well in the end.

We get it, your kid did kind of good (not good enough to be a semi-finalist, but goodish) on a test and needs something to list

You snowflakes need to get a new argument because the “everything I don’t like is socialism” thing is more worn out than Don Jr’s septum.

More Republican lies.

Do you get paid by the lie?

Their children are not even all that brilliant. Whining in the National media about “commended” when everyone knows the cut off was a 204 selection index.

Boo hoo.

Wrong. The cutoff for commended for the class of 2023 was 207. For Virginia, the semifinalist cutoff was 221.

Why would you lie about something that is so easily verifiable? It just lets us know that we can't believe a word you say.

Lol. 204 vs 207

No difference especially for a TJ student who is supposed to be so incredibly brilliant that the entire school system needs to cater to them.

Not a Republican but it’s repugnant that we have people like Nardos King on the payroll who do little but post Tweets on Hayfield basketball players while academic success in FCPS is regularly denigrated by Democratic hacks. FCPS is a joke.

In the case of Sinclair Broadcasting Group, they actually DO get paid by the lie.

Lol, you don't know the difference between a 4 and a 7. Sad.

And this involves more schools than just TJ

I’m sorry but Asra threw her son under the bus with this media frenzy story.

She told the entire world he was not a NMF. And that being commended would have been such a big deal for him. It’s not okay to do that to your child.
