FCPS statement on NMF issue

Anonymous
To the PP who said TJ could have minimized this by apologizing swiftly … TJ did apologize and make calls ro colleges on behalf of the large number of commended students they have. The other schools apologized, too.

Fcps asked all their schools to look into it after TJ and they all did - that’s how the issues with other schools were discovered.

None of that is enough for the right wing agitators so they had to do a third party investigation and that’s still not enough for some of the posters on this thread (who don’t appear to have even read the report) and the initial instigator, Nomani. And, I haven’t heard that Miyares has dropped his stupid investigation, so it doesn’t seem to be enough for him.

Because it’s not about the particular concern for these folks. It’s about attacking FCPS over and over again.

As evidenced by the relentless goal moving and inane criticisms.

They went from “kids lost scholarships!!!!” (false) to “they should have apologized!!!!” (they did).

And it’s only going to escalate until Election Day, then poof. On to something else.

FCPS didn’t release the full report. The fact that you seem not to know this, or know this but choose to pretend otherwise, tells us all we need to know about your commitment to accuracy and transparency.

FCPS is horribly mismanaged but employs enough spin doctors to obfuscate it’s never-ending incompetence.

This. All of it. I doubt even half the posters here are from FCPS or the DC area.

This whole thing started with a school official lying and saying they were withheld because of equity. Not in those words, but something about not wanting kids to feel left out.

Right, so by now saying that's NOT why they weren't handed out, what they are really saying is that their school officials are lying liars who lie and no one should believe a word they say--ever?

I’ve been arguing all along that the only thing that should have happened from all of this is that that official should be fired. Not because this is a big deal, but because he lied to cover his rear end for neglecting to take care of the issue in the first place. The biggest indictment of FCPS in all of this is that that guy still has a job.

Or....he wasn't lying.

No. He was. It’s convenient for the narrative to assert he wasn’t, but the evidence has overwhelmingly shown that he was.

So why is FCPS keeping a known and blatant liar on staff? What a liability!

Oh, we agree on that. It’s totally reprehensible.

One of the anti-FCPS PPs already admitted they were from NYC.

Yeah, because they never lie…

And for the record, I actually don't think the school official lied...I think they are telling the truth.
But if FCPS leadership is saying that's not the reason, then THEY are calling their official a liar.

The problem is that they have spent so much money and focus on equity that what the school official said initially fits the narrative. I honestly don't know. But, again, if it was not deliberate, it was negligence. And, to the poster(s) minimizing the achievement, it just makes you look like you will defend FCPS come hell or high water.

This could have been avoided if they had apologized when the omission was first discovered. A "mea culpa" then would have gone a long way.

Yes, that would have largely been the end of it. Though we can't rule out that someone made up this statement by the school official.

Well, then, how can you blame the parent?

If he lied, this is on FCPS.

No one is blaming the parent. The person who is blameworthy is the person who took this crumb and turned it into a massive platform for her to continue her manufactured personal crusade against FCPS

I thought she was the parent?

The weird thing is the Republicans aren’t even lining up candidates to run in most of the local School Board and Board of Supervisors elections this fall, so one suspects this was always more about raising the profile of a few conservative activists than effecting any serious change on the School Board or within FCPS. So maybe Asra will sell a few more copies of “Woke Army” but absolutely nothing will change at Gatehouse.

That is what makes it all so funny. They are shrieking about FCPS staff "lying" on something relatively unimportant but are totally fine with "the stolen election" and thousands of other MAGA lies.

There are lots of people who see this as wrong. But, most are not affected by this and do not understand it.

Except for the remark by the AP to the mom at TJ, I would just think it is sloppiness and negligence. But, the more I think about it, I now wonder. Schools have usually been proud to honor high achievers.

These days with all the emphasis on equity and equal outcomes, I am beginning to wonder.

i really do not think there is an anti-Asian bias. I think there is an anti-merit bias. The "achievement gap" has been a focus for years and years and years. A lot of this started with that focus. When FCPS expanded GT to AAP, it was with the purpose of getting more minorities. They did get more minorities--it just turned out to be the "wrong minority."
When they moved away from relying on high IQ scores alone for GT, it backfired. And, some "prep" groups began coaching for the standardized tests, as well. I was a teacher and administered those tests--they were kept under lock and key back in the day. Now, friends tell me that the kids acknowledge they have seen the test before. That eliminates the reliabiiity and validity of the test.

The AAP program is broken.
FCPS needs to scale it back dramatically. I don't know how it can be fixed.

And, if they want to fix the "achievement gap," they need to focus on academics and good instruction. Teaching about being "gender fluid" is not going to help anyone.

Get back to basics for all kids. Go back to "real" honors programs in middle school. If a kid cannot keep up, then go back to gen ed.

+ 100 They will contort and contradict themselves is such humorous ways all to the detriment of the school system. They are anarchists at heart - anything they can use to hurt any public school system makes their tiny black hearts sing.

Except for the remark by the AP to the mom at TJ

It's very possible that she misinterpreted his comments given her extreme bias.
