I thought this was well written and very thorough. The fact that a 3rd party dumps their job on the schools was ridiculous to begin with and the narrative that was created and propagated by TJ parents was nonsensical and very costly to the district. I don't read right-winged media reports but if anyone does, please share their reporting on the district's outcomes.

The fact that schools neglected to give the commendations in a timely manner either shows negligence or intention. Neither is acceptable, but there is some documentation that, at least at TJ, it was intentional. One of the schools that neglected to give the award until the issue went public has a principal whose bio reflects, first and foremost, attention to "equity." |
I’m sure the AG and Moms4Looneytunes will decry this outside entity as “woke” and corrupt, then demand another investigation at Ffx County expense. |
Some evidence? What is that exactly? Why do you know that the 3d party that looked into this did not? (We already know the answer to that is nothing). |
I felt like FCPS’s whining about how they were forced to spend money on a costly “independent” investigation was inappropriately. They chose to do so and, ultimately, their best case scenario was that the delayed notifications at 8 schools were due to a lack of any county-wide policy.
There’s something seriously wrong with FCPS when they have tons of Gatehouse employees falling all over themselves to congratulate Hayfield‘s basketball team on a state title, but somehow can’t get their act together to either congratulate students on academic achievements or make sure students are promptly notified of NMSF commended status. How about they get rid of Nardos King and find a new Deputy Chief Academic Officer to make sure academic success gets as much attention as basketball? |
DD received a commendation some years ago. She received it in a very timely manner --at the same time as the semi-finalists were announced. This is not hard. Yes, National Merit should probably send it directly to the students--but this procedure was put in place long, long ago. It is not a new thing and the schools know it. Again, if it was not intentional, it was negligent. It was not an oversight. They knew they were supposed to do it. Were they directly encouraged not to do it? Maybe, maybe not. Again, there was documentation that it was a deliberate choice at TJ. |
I think ita ridiculous how mych they soend on outside lawnfirms and consultant, when they have 19,999 people working at gatehouse. |
The easiest solution is for FCPS to decline to notify students on behalf of any third party. If commendations are important enough, let NMS figure it out |
Will Miyares now pull his political “investigation” into this non issue or will we still be forced to waste resource’s responding to him? |
So what about the NM commended students at Lewis, Annandale, Edison, and West Potomac who also did not receive their certificates? The fact that those schools are also involved shows it wasn't a large-scale intentional scheme. |
So did the 7 page report include recommendations or steps to fix the problem so it won't happen again and notifications will go out in a more timely fashion going forward? |
They could have acknowledged that they made a mistake. That would have been cheap and effective. An apology would have been helpful. One thing is clear: merit and acadmics are not their priority. |
Apparently reading 7 pages was too big of an ask for you |
Again the tiger moms on racism patrol have been proven wrong. As a FFX taxpayer, I resent this waste of money on a non issue. |
They did both |
