However, many of the other parents are all up in it and are super obnoxious. Not all, of course, and probably not even most. So if you're going to be that type, you'll have lots of company. If you're not, you'll either be annoyed by it, or find a way to just stay out of the drama.

Our kid is bright, doing well, likes school. No complaints.

What's special about Tilden when it comes to having more of super obnoxious type? I mean all middle schools in the area should have same distribution of type of parents.

Depends on what qualifies as "the area." We moved from a different part of the county, so still MCPS, and the Tilden parents are different than what we had encountered before. If you're talking about the general Rockville/Bethesda/Potomac area, then they might not be different than the other nearby schools.

Yes, parents shouldn't be much different but Tilden has declined in the last 5 years as compared to other MS in area.

I’m a parent at Tilden. Can you elaborate? I’m curious.

Again, I can only speak based on my experience as a parent at Tilden compared to the other part of the county where we live. My child attends Tilden for a special program; it is not our home school. After attending BTSN, several PTA meetings, and some of the virtual events that were supposed to be to town hall type sessions with the principal, I was just overwhelmed by the amount of parents, and their audacity, who thought these were opportunities for them to hog the floor, complain about very specific-to-their-child topics, talk over the admin/teachers/leaders who were running the meeting, and demand answers without listening to them. Nothing got accomplished, Most of the teachers at BTSN couldn't even get through their "these are the topics we'll cover" two minute slide presentation without parents jumping in to ask about a specific assignment or why their child wasn't placed in a more advanced class. At the recent event meant to address the anti-Semitic incidents at the school, parents flooded the chat and the zoom objecting to their children being questioned about it, as if it was more upsetting for a child to be asked "do you know who did this?" than to see the actual hate symbols themselves and know someone at their school drew them. One parent said it was unfair to ask kids to rat out their friends. My response would've been, if your friends are doing this, you need to speak up.

And so on. My dealings with other parents have been fine, they're nice people from what I've seen. But in general, I definitely see more entitlement, less respect for teachers/admin, and just lots of butting in. You might see that as parental involvement, but in my kids' other schools, parents seem to be involved without insisting that they know better than everyone else. And the best part... nothing gets accomplished at these events because nobody will LISTEN. And then complaints about questions being unanswered. Again, maybe that's just the Bethesda/Potomac way, but it's not what we experienced in other parts of MoCo. So I can't say whether the parents at Tilden are more/less obnoxious than other nearby schools.

My kid likes school, she gets good grades, everything seems ok. But maybe we're just super laid back and my perspective is skewed. I don't know.

Yes, Tilden parent community is part of the problem here.

Given how poorly Tilden is doing and going downhill, there are two possibilities. Either Tilden parent community has more issues than others in area or admin is weak in Tilden. I would guess it's combination of two.

It's possible that parent is afraid of being ratted out. I am not sure what happened suddenly, but Tilden started going downhill in the last 5 years or so. we had kids there and it was a good school with good community.

We still live in the mid-county area (Magruder cluster). My child attends Tilden for one of their special programs that's not available at our home school. We also lived upcounty in Damascus for a while, and while I only saw ES, it was still fairly laid-back in comparison. But still lots of parental interest/involvement. Just not... entitlement.

Tilden parent PP here, again. Just want to reiterate that my kid LOVES her teachers and has good kids as friends and our family has zero complaints about the school itself.

I thought MCPS changed the admin recently at Tilden to stop the decline there.

The current principal is new this year.

Thread seems scary.

Why Tilden is having so many problems?

Any feedback on new admin?

How’s the new principal? Tilden has had an unusually high number of teacher openings posted and I wondered if it was due to parents, admin, or maybe both.

That's a huge red flag for any school.

I imagine this will be true for most MCPS schools this year. Many teachers left mid-year and more and more have had enough and are either retiring, or changing careers. And not just MCPS - this is a nation-wide problem

It’s been a really rough year for all teachers, but Tilden truly stood out for needing more than most. Tbh, it definitely appeared to be the middle school with the most openings this year (by a lot). Just curious why.
