Maybe so, but Tilden doesn't exist in a vacuum, it's one small part of MCPS, and these decisions are going to be made looking at the bigger picture. |
That's different angle than saying 35-40% is not a high FARMS. Pretty soon we will be saying 60-70% is not high FARMS because county becomes 90% FARMS. |
Why there are so many issues at Tilden? |
It would be a much less toxic environment. |
Tilden parent are people who didn’t quite have the life they were led to believe they deserved. They had to settle for North Bethesda rather than Bethesda, WJ rather than Churchill. They think they can socially engineer better for their kids. |
Sure it is. Stop normalizing what is and is not a high rate. |
The solution is not to have large, countywide school systems. |
There isn't much discipline at Tilden so the kids can get away with a lot and the teachers can't do much about it. I don't have experience with any other middle schools so I'm not sure if this is a Tilden issue or MCPS issue. I think setting boundaries and enforcing rules would go a long way in terms of fixing the issues there. That said, my child likes Tilden very much - it's me that wishes there was more structure and support for the teachers. |
Theoretically, yes. |
Have & have-not. Great way to stultify social mobility and perpetuate the socioeconomic status quo. Or there could be immense funding differences from a common pot such that there is no effective difference in academic opportunity for a kid walking into one school versus a nearly identical kid walking into another. Or go private. |
I think there is more fear of parents there than any other school except NBMS. |
But NB does not have as many I
ssues as Tilden |
