Panera soups taste bad enough when they’re freshly made I can’t imagine what they taste like sitting in a grocery store for a few days.

panera soups are all frozen. they come in bags to the store.

Oh ok. That sounds so much better!

PP wasn’t trying to say it’s better at the restaurant, just that it’s the exact same product, quality, and taste whether it’s heated up at the restaurant or at home. So the bit about it being worse after sitting at the grocery store for days is just silly. Panera is pretty gross anyway, the snobbery was just misplaced.

Ledo's pizza is worse than eating wet cardboard. Frozen pizza tastes like heaven in comparison.

Anonymous wrote:This is not an opinion. It is a fact in our house. My DH, kids and I, we all cook. We use organic and fresh ingredients (as much as possible) and we make food from scratch to the best of our abilities.

- we use fresh minced garlic, ginger, herbs, onions, tomatoes.
- we grate our own cheese
- we make our own pasta, pasta sauce, rotis, bread, yogurt, ghee.
- yes to using kerrigold butter.
- we also make fresh cream from raw milk. we use farm fresh eggs. You have to be careful using it and hygiene is very important.
- we grind our own meat instead of buying it from store. The quality and taste is amazing.
- I only use basmati rice imported from India and I make it in the traditional way - wash three times, cook in water like pasta.
- we like quinoa but we no longer eat it plain. we mainly make a spicy upma or pilaf out of it. That is the only way we can make it appealing.
- we make our own tea masala. roast, grind and brew our own coffee.
- we do not use sugar substitute. We use honey, sugar or jaggery. I also make a puree of dates to sweeten my drinks.

Um, do you mean Kerrygold?

Now don't be "beetching" PP!

Fast food is disgusting. All of it.

Agree. I really don't see why people covet it or consider it a "treat"

It isn't a treat at all. It tastes like garbage because it is garbage.

Everyone should make their own yogurt

Maybe expand beyond Panda Express?

Nope, I've lived and eaten Chinese food in NYC, San Francisco, and the DC area (including Rockville and Wheaton), and I think it's gross.

I've never eaten at Panda Express.

Do you order off of the Chinese menu or the English one?

Np I agree with the original pp. American Chinese food is beyond disgusting. Goopy, sticky, overly sweet. I love Thai, Japanese, Korean and other Asian foods. I think Chinese food needs a rebranding and more authenticity. And no, I don’t order off the Chinese menu since I’ve never seen one.

Original PP here, and same.

If you've never ordered off of the chinese-only menu or the chinese-only specials written on the board (or that the waiter tells you in chinese), you haven't had authentic chinese.

Chinese food also is very diverse. The food varies dramatically from region to region. Some regions make food where the food doesn't involve any goopy thickened sauces, for example. Some regions never mix sweet and salty flavors. My grandmother would be horrified at that.

Picky eaters are some of the most annoying people on the planet.

I wonder how many of you migrated here, from the Chowhound boards?

Anonymous wrote:I judge people who buy storebought cookies, when cookies are so easy to make. I'm not a brilliant baker, but it honestly takes no time at all, and then I can control the level of sweetness. I do NOT judge people who buy croissants--those babies are hard to make!

I feel that way about people who use those box mixes for things like banana bread or cornbread. They’re called quick breads for a reason! If you have to add eggs, oil & and water to the mix, you’re not really saving any time over making it from scratch.

I form negative opinions about you if you eat Red Delicious apples or American cheese.

I’m also very snobby about salmon, but I’m from the Pacific Northwest and only want to eat fresh Coho, Chinook or Copper River—don’t come at me with farmed. Related to the PNW thing, I think lobster is overrated; Dungeness crab is far superior.

But, hey, opinions are like a**holes…

Putting tomatoes in the refrigerator is sacrilege.

Plantains are bland and boring.

Try maduros! They are ripe plaintains and are sweet, caramelized when cooked properly & absolutely delicious. You can find them frozen sometimes.
