slur during last nights FCPS Board mtg

This is the same school board who over the summer tried to sneak through a new policy while parents were not paying attention the would suspend students for 5 days, starting in 3rd through 12th grade, placing a Title IX violation in their permanent records, for using the wrong pronoun when addressing or talking about anyone elese, even if it was accidental.

Let that sink in.

So when they find themselves making these slurs such as her use of the R word, or the other school board rep who droned on and on about how she identifies closely with asian people because she liked to eat at fake Japanese hibachi chain restaurants on her birthday as a child, one can only hope that these left wing partisans start to extend the same grace they expect for themselves to students who might make a verbal mistake, so a childhood or teenage error does not result in a kids life being ruined so some partisan, power tripping adults can make an example out of the kids over a bogus suspension and title IX violation.

+1000. Has there ever been a bigger bunch of poseurs and hypocrites than this current School Board?

It was great news earlier this month when dopey Karl Frisch lost his primary and two-faced Elaine Tholen announced she wouldn’t run again and hopefully it will be good news again this week if potty-mouthed Karen Keys Gamarra agrees to resign.

"Rachna Sizemore Heizer said "I'm glad to see that she's issued an apology, but I don't think it was appropriate for her to say she was frustrated. There's no excuses for using that word."

She claims it's not the first time Keys-Gamarra has used the word.

"That is actually the third time she's used it," said Sizemore Heizer. "The first my understanding, was in a conversation with another board member and she was told it was inappropriate. The second was actually in a conversation with me and I told her it was highly inappropriate and offensive and asked her not to use it."

Interesting. I've heard the r word, intellectually disabled, and ED used in FCPS settings by ASD students in their quest to get FAPE commensurate with their academic abiltiies. The students were none of the 3.

Last election cycle the D machine squashed 2 R candidates that cared about instruction. Meanwhile people can't figure out why other schools with similar demographics get wads of more cash in the budget. So in addition to not pursuing her duties as a VA SB member for facilties and budget allocation, Keys-Gamarra is found to have repetatively used slurs.

Yeah. I thinks she’s a terrible board member but I don’t want her use of the “r-word” (seriously, it has reached the status that I can’t even say it or write it? it’s completely forbidden? Inappropriate in any context?) to be the reason she resigns.

It just wasn't broadly considered offensive in the same way back then, and I never realized it was based on a reference to a specific group of people until ~10 years ago. I've since tried to remove it from my vocabulary, but occasionally it still slips out before I can consciously catch it.

So you’re in your late 40s and struggle to regulate yourself from using a word that is a put-down because you’ve used it so much. That’s beyond sad.

No, it's just a normal human subconscious process. Not all thought/speech is done with intention, especially emotional/reactive thought and speech, and patterns from our youth are often particularly ingrained in our subconscious.

THANK YOU. 100% this ^^^

I attended a few meetings in the past and have a very negative view of Keys Gamarra. This incident is consistent with that view. A political hack.

A vacancy would be a huge improvement over KG.

Seriously?? I don’t know anyone who thinks the r-word is acceptable, no matter their politics. You sound unbelievably ridiculous. Do better.

I guess you don’t know a lot of MAGAs or spend time on the politics board.

MAGAs regularly use the r word.

If they do, they aren’t using it on hot mics during FCPS School Board meetings or in private discussions with Board members, unlike Keys Gamarra.

Don’t fall for the diversionary tactic. PP is trying to distract.

New immigrant here.
Are these school board members elected or appointed?
If elected, when do I get to vote? Thanks!

Immigrant here as well. As PP said, Nov 2023.
But - you can't vote unless you are a US citizen. Be careful, even registering to vote might get you in trouble with immigration
. Stay away from politics, other than just educating yourself about what's going on in FCPS schools and take the appropriate measures for your kids.
Other than that, you kids at the mercy of those ultra progressive whackos, since you are not allowed to have a voice.

That is true. Registering to vote or voting in an election for which you are ineligible will render you permanently inadmissible/deportable. There is no waiver for this offense so it results in a permanent ban from the US. Be very careful about this bc sometimes people at the DMV inadvertently ask people if they've registered without paying attention to citizenship.

Because people in FCPS aren't dumb enough to elect a MAGA to the school board.

I bet the MAGAs are LOVING her right now.

The only people loving KKG right now are the other far-left grifters like Melanie Meren and Sujatha Hampton who’ve hitched their wagon to a race-based, progressive agenda and don’t want to lose an ally (even when their ally has turned from an asset to a liability).

Precisely this ^^.

Gotta love Michelle Reid. Girlfriend does not play. Her latest email tonight where she summarizes what she did this past week included a very nice letter from a parent of a student with an intellectual disability. The parent was grateful for how well she’s been treated by her teachers in FCPS and how she’s part of a team.
KKG opposed her in the vote to become superintendent because she was too busy pandering to a small group. Reid’s email makes her look like a bigger jacka$$.
