| The areas of Einstein that will be rezoned to Woodward will bring more students than is currently realized. I know some parents out that way who currently send to private and said they would enroll their kids in public school if they get rezoned to Woodward. |
Too much wine this evening? They won’t be anything if the gas generator catches on fire in the 4th quarter. What do you call kids injured at a football game? |
Yes, whenever possible, people should be assigned to the closest school. This allows the county to spend less on transportation and more on education. It also fosters neighborhood schools. Despite what seem people think right now, many people are not assigned to the closest school. |
I would think Rock View is the only Einstein feeder not a candidate to be rezoned to Woodward. It will be interesting to see which of the 4 other feeders will get rezoned, there are different arguments for all of them. To me if there is real determination to ensure the makeup of Woodward is more diverse, Highland ES will probably be a top candidate, although some of their students are in the walk zone for Einstein. |
DP. I think many Highland students would also be walkable to Wheaton HS, so if they're reassigned anywhere it might be there. So they're probably not getting bussed to Woodward either. |
They could zone Wheaton feeders to Woodward, since they are the most convenient, and then maybe move Highland to Wheaton? Who knows? They do seem focused on increasing overall space in the DCC and using the flexibility of the consortium to even out enrollment across schools. |
The plans DID mention BCC at one point, and BCC parents had a hissy fit (see the Lyttonsville Master Plan or Sector Plan, I forget). BCC was then removed. |
They don't need to mention it. It's adjacent to Woodward and the DCC, so it's part of the solution whether some parents like it or not. |
Here is the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Cluster chapter of the new CIP: https://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/MP23_Chapter4BethesdaChevyChase.pdf You can read all six pages and you will not find the word "Woodward" included on any of them. |
Because BCC is so special it doesn’t need to be mentioned when WJ and the DCC are specifically mentioned?
|
Yes it's obvious since it's between these entities and part of MCPS. |
Because MCPS is so well-known for doing what's "obvious" with school boundaries? |
The Troll is strong in this one.
|
The school sandwiched between the two areas mentioned seems likely going to be part of the solution, but nobody really knows. This is just an educated guess. |
|
For those of you who keep insisting BCC is part of the Woodward plans, despite MCPS saying otherwise, what options can you even create that would make sense?
Most BCC feeders have areas which are within BCC's walk zone: Bethesda, North Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase, and Somerset, so why would they reassign those students to WJ or Woodward, especially when BCC itself isn't overcapacity? Westbrook, if it ever would be a candidate for reassignment, seems far likelier to be assigned to Whitman. |
