How have Christians “shoved” their belief down your throat, pp? You never answered that question.

I would advise people to ignore the fairytale poster/s. They definitely are obsessed with religion (they post the same stuff constantly here) and don’t have a life outside of raging against religion.

The topic of this thread is the percentage of adults in America who believe in God has fallen to 81%. Ok, that’s what it is. I can say as a Christian that it could be 1%, and my faith in God will never shake or stop. Each person has their own opinion that is valid for them about many things in life, not just religion or God. I don’t see changing someone’s mind about those things and won’t have mine changed. And I won’t spend my life trying to change someone’s opinion or calling their opinions or beliefs wrong.

Christians clearly just shoved their beliefs down our throats through the work of the 6 Catholics on the Supreme Court. Please tell me you’re not that stupid. They just shoved their beliefs really quickly down our throats and want to keep doing so. They are erasing the state and church separation. Whether it’s paying for religious schools with tax payer money, this upcoming coach praying case or the most egregious example their Christian based ruling in Roe. It’s all Christianity. You know it. I know. Anyone who isn’t a complete fling dunce knows it.

These religious extremists are infringing on *my* freedom of religion.

Americans aren’t guaranteed freedom from religion. No one can make you practice religion, but also, they are guaranteed their right to practice religion. You might hear or see other Americans practicing their religion, and you have no right to be offended or try to stop them .

DP here. Who is trying to do that? I will tell you who. No one. Anywhere. Ever.

However, you don't need to look further than a daily news site to see the opposite happening.

And BTW, you are 100% wrong about your first statement. American are guaranteed freedom from having to participate in religion.

Other Americans practicing their religion and you hearing or seeing it isn’t religion being forced upon you.

Correct, and no one said it is. As in the first sentence of the post you replied to but apparently didn't bother to read. That's you making up stuff. You're not being oppressed.

NP. This is getting really lame because you bring it up everywhere, and it almost never works in the context, like here. So it just looks like the writer is stupid. That is all.

NP, really? sounds a lot like the poster who assumes everyone is tuned in to the religion forum all the time.

Some of you atheists are tuned in here all the time. Especially the Catholic hater—I’m not Catholic, but even I recognize her.

Check out the current thread where someone is outraged because her mom talks about her religion. She thinks it’s “pushing” religion. Actually, it’s not clear what mom is actually saying.

Yes! Carl Jung said that there is a human nuance that forces us to create a "God". Old forms of God may have passed away, but new forms are emerging. People worship guns, plant based eating, animal obsession, sexual identity, sports teams and even science.

It is impossible for a human not to think anything is bigger than himself. It will cause psychosis. This has been studied and proven in the God Gene. Humans are hardwired to believe in something. https://www.nature.com/articles/ng1204-1241

I became religious after being raised atheist in a west coast college town where not many of my peers were religious. While the people I grew up with mostly didn’t come to religion like me, they still believe in tarot cards, astrology, manifesting, etc. I think people overstate what this trend means. Humans will keep inventing religion alternatives.

I have never been so any religion as I am now. I worry that the crazy religions are over taking the state instead of keeping separate. It looks too much like Isis and the christian taliban to coming to America.

We have to be here all the time to point out that everything you believe is completely without an iota of evidence and is likely false.

Sorry, usually I have more tolerance, but as we creep toward a fascist theocracy and I watch religion erode the very foundation of personal freedoms that made this country great and unique I cannot bear any more of it. The only hope I have is that this is the last gasp of the theocrats, like that final scene where Jason jumps out of the lake for one more dying stab at the good guys.

So you are here all the time.

Look, I’m very pro-choice and have marched for it. But you’re not convincing anybody by spewing hate on a daily basis. If anything, you’re making them dig in more. Maybe if you took a break and let people come to their own conclusions, we’d actually see more change.

Again, there are no scientific experiments, scientific tools, scientific tests, scientific measures or scales, that can prove God exists or prove God doesn’t exist. Exactly what kind of “evidence” are you looking for? Why do you think you can demand “evidence” for millions of people to be “validated” in their right to have their own religious belief system?

And who are you speaking for? You said “we?” Who is “we?”

Science doesn’t have the processes to prove or disprove the existence of God. Science studies and attempts to explain only the natural world while God, in most religions, is supernatural.

Science and religion draw on different aspects of human experience. In science, explanations are based on evidence drawn from observing the natural world and conducting experiments. Because these explanations are based on evidence, they can be checked independently by others.

Scientific questions (aka hypotheses) are framed in ways so that they can be confirmed or disproved by evidence. If the evidence shows that the hypothesis is wrong, the hypothesis must be reframed and tested again or rejected.

Religious beliefs don’t depend only on empirical evidence. They can also be based on faith and typically involve supernatural forces or entities.

So they are different ways of understanding the world?
Yes, and they focus on different kinds of questions. For example, science is a powerful tool for understanding and explaining the mechanisms and dynamics of the physical universe. But science can’t examine or explain the purpose of the universe. That’s a question that falls under theology or philosophy.

Pitting science and religion against each other makes both less able to contribute to a more meaningful experience of the world.

NP, really? sounds a lot like the poster who assumes everyone is tuned in to the religion forum all the time.

Some of you atheists are tuned in here all the time. Especially the Catholic hater—I’m not Catholic, but even I recognize her.

1. Who is “we?” Who are you speaking for?

2. You really don’t have to be here all the time to tell people they are worshiping wrong. You have no right to tell people they are wrong about their religion.

I didn’t say they were wrong. I said there was zero evidence for it and it was likely false. Please quote me properly and don’t twist my words or my meaning. If you don’t understand the difference it’s because you don’t want to. If you do have evidence present it and we can discuss it. See how that works?

The "we" was in response to the post I was responding to, which you clearly did not read.

None of your rhetoric is substantive, and there remains zero reliable evidence for what you believe, and why I think it is likely false. There is absolutely no evidence of the supernatural. I am not even sure what that is. Unless you can present some...

And I did not use the word "science", I used the word, "evidence". Can you present any evidence? No?

Then I see no reason to believe what you believe, and reiterate it is likely false.

Ok, we don’t care about your opinion. And when I say we, I speak for every person in existence that has a religious belief system and believes in a higher power.

You are welcome to have your own beliefs. We are welcome to have ours. Fin.

Except I don’t have beliefs for which there is no evidence and you do.

Also, I do not attempt to regulate and control you and your body over my evidence-free beliefs.

Big differences. Not equivalent.

But yes, you are welcome to believe what you wish.

This is logical to me, and I believe religion does far more harm than good, so I view this as a positive development.

What are your thoughts?

Shocked and depressed it’s 81%. But humans want to believe in fairy tales, it seems

They have a mouth full of scripture and a heart full of hate. It’s amazing.
