You (top PP) are blaming the victims of oppression for not staying silent about the oppression. That’s like blaming a victim of domestic abuse for complaining that her husband hit her.

Being silent about racism and sexism has never been a successful tactic. Nor has working hard to beat the oppressor at his own game. Waiting for the oppressor to grant you full and equal rights hasn’t worked. 100 years after the right to vote was won, women still don’t have equality nor do we have the support of societal structures, i.e. society still runs on the unpaid labor of women - no universal paid maternity leave, no universal paid childcare, no universal paid family/sick leave, no SS credit for caregiving.

Women are doing unpaid labor to birth and raise the next generation of taxpayers.

And when we see things like the Dobbs draft, which takes away our fundamental rights and legalizes putting our bodies at the unpaid service of society, it is infuriating. Men do suck. Men refuse to grant us equal rights. And it is men who still control the levers of power in society. The men who are at these power levers suck, and ever man who silently assents to those decisions also sucks.

You silent bystanders, you men who support in words only or by the occasional small deeds, you who want women to smile and be silent - you suck.

No one is saying OP's wife should be silent. She should just direct her anger in a productive direction. Ranting at your DH and son is not helping anything, and is probably ultimately making everything worse. +1. COVID made me sensitive to people arguing in stark binaries. These were the people who made arguments based on vaccines and masks not completely stopping COVID and tended to disregard that these mitigation measures reduced the harm from COVID. I feel similarly about people like PP who read the original post and concluded that it was advocating for "being silent."

I’m not sure what you mean by stark binary vs. regular binary. Yes, there are nuances but logical thinking is rooted in binary thinking. We pre-suppose some things we agree upon to then further rationalize a position using symbolic logic.

And yes, this results in hundreds of years of debate over the existence of God culminating in… faith.

I can’t imagine a logical argument anyone could defend rationally that women and POC are not oppressed worldwide today. Further, the rhetoric is escalating and women and POC see it and experience it at work, at home, at the gym, grabbing a coffee.
