UChicago is close to Ivy but Wake is not your average southern school. It is a top school and no one is getting in unless they are a good student. |
| Wake fell considerably in recent rankings. Wake is a school in decline. |
So is Tulane. |
Because of the way the rankings were calculated this year. It was consistently in the top 25-30 schools for 25+ years. The only thing that changed is how USNWR valued certain inputs to their calculations. Wake is not “in decline” |
Wake tumbled considerably in the rankings. That’s a fact. All schools were subject to “the way the rankings were calculated this year”. And Wake dropped like a stone. |
What is the impact on all those Nobels on current undergrads? |
|
Pre-law? WF.
They have a highly underrated faculty in the law school for some reason that has nothing to do with educational quality. |
Agree. |
DP: The rankings may be a fact, but that they are a meaningful measure of educational quality is what is in contention. You could make a ranking of schools based on criteria that would make MIT drop like a stone and I wouldn't believe it was in decline either. The new rankings lessened the importance of faculty quality and increased the importance of percentage of Pell grant students in multiple factors. That might be important to on a societal level, but it doesn't impact the quality of education my UMC kid receives nor their career/grad school outcomes. |
| I thought the new criteria was strange. It is important to us that there is a priority in professors teaching. I went to a school where I was mostly taught by TAs and I didn’t love that. |
| I never had a class taught by a TA at Wake. I even took multiple classes taught by heads of departments. I loved the class I took that fulfilled a core requirement team taught by the head of the English department and the head of the Art department. |
| What is a wake forest? |
| I went to Wake undergrad and Booth MBA. Both excellent, but Wake definitely better for a more social kid than Chicago. Chicago does an excellent job and keeping the campus safe IMO - never felt unsafe. If you're child is looking to go to high finance type role I think Wake is better option. Alumni network in NYC is extremely strong and have several classmates who have already made partner at big PE....Apollo and such. Wake's reputation for producing nice, smart non social warrior grads makes them very appealing to the capital class types - but make no mistake, the students at Wake (especially those from the Northeast) are mostly very wealthy and very connected. Both are excellent. |
Wake Forest every class is taught by professor and the personal attention is outstanding. The new rankings do not take this into consideration and whatever in rankings. It is a great school and those who know know including employers and grad schools. I can’t imagine U Chicago being for my kid but it is also a great school. If you feel strongly then have your child apply there. There are so many great schools. A great school FYI is one that your kid will thrive in. |
