UChicago vs Wake Forest

You are dumb. Everyone has heard of WF. And most can even spell it.

UChicago, naturally, because like all good zombies this thread loves brrrraaaaaaaaaiiiiins!

What does your child want to major in? Those are two very different schools. I went to Wake Forest and absolutely loved it and am now a lawyer. My husband went to U Chicago and absolutely loved it and is now an engineer. I don’t think we would have been happy had we swapped schools…

This is OP. Pre-Law, Economics, Poly-Sci, Government, International Affairs - along those lines.

Easily U. Chicago. Chicago is historically dominant in Economics, has one of the best law schools in the country (although I doubt Pre-law is a major), and is probably strong in the remaining social sciences as well.

I can imagine someone picking Wake Forest but on social life alone. It's Southern, Greek Life dominant, etc. etc. Meaning you have to not only be a wealthy WASP, but a wealthy Southern WASP. Wealthy WASP from DC suburbs does not count.

This is so false. Wake has a very diverse student body and most students aren’t from the south.

Why don't you go mask off and say what you REALLY mean: You are a bigot who hates gentiles.

This has nothing to do with being a "gentile", it's a basic fact regarding social life in a wealthy Southern school.

The only benefit that Wake offers over Chicago is the social life, more particularly Greek Life. However to experience the fullest extent of social life that Wake offers, one must be a wealthy Southern WASP. Most preferably, the "P" meaning Southern Baptist.

This is the general reality, and to point it out is not bigoted against "gentiles". If anything it's the socially exclusionary practices that are bigoted against the vast majority of "gentiles" who don't fit into the particular demographic of wealthy - Southern - white - Anglo-Saxon (in claim) - Southern Baptist.

I went to Wake and was president of my sorority. I grew up in California. My best friends were from Connecticut, Maryland, Texas, North Carolina, and Colorado. None of us were Baptist. Half were wealthy.

Weird UChicago has Greek life. I would choose Wake Forest though because I would not want to be in Chicago right now. Also Wake has incredible med school placement so a win for that. My friends who went to UChicago are more academic and want to be professors. Wake Forest seems to produce a lot of
doctors.

University of Chicago is #12 in terms of the percent of students who go on to get Ph.Ds, while Wake Forest isn't in the top 50 Ph.D. feeder schools.

Sure, Chicago would be the choice is a student wants a PhD, but that is an absurdly small number of kids.

More absurdly small at Wake than Chicago, that's for sure!

Ooh burn! Seriously, how many people aim to be PhDs? I grew up UMC and am currently UMC and I know only a few. Most of us are doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, or in tech.

Curious how pp has personal knowledge one has to be Southern wasp but not wasp from dc?

In reality, Wake has a good number of kids from all over country including g dc suburbs.

Wake has a huge number of international kids - HUGE

Because Wake prefers full pay.

Chicago murders down 23% from the old ‘21 numbers a Wake fan posted, abd shootings down 32%. DC should be so lucky.

They genuinely aren't comparable.

Chicago is an excellent academic school, but my excellent academic student is considering Wake and not Chicago because they also want top d1 sports to cher for, and gasp, Greek life.

U of C does have Greek life. I graduated in 1995 and was in a sorority and there are many more chapters on campus now.

You guys, yesterday, one PP resurrected this thread that died a year and a half ago. There is NO ONE currently wondering whether to choose UChicago or Wake Forest even if there may have been someone in this hard-to-imagine position once upon a time.

More like do you want a kick in the groin or a mild case of indigestion.

In our school the kids that get in to u Chicago are on top of the class and super smart and very competitive.
Kids that go to wake forest are less academically driven.
I am not sure the outcome after graduation, obviously kids change and in almost any school you can your goal if you work hard.
