I just don’t see these two schools appealing to the same person at all. I know a kid at each and they could not be more different and they’re perfectly matched to the schools.

Homecoming queen with high gpa from wealthy southern family at Wake and an brilliant albeit arrogant child of a scientist who has always acted like he’s 50 at Chicago. Both happy as can be.

My DH is a professor at U of C in one of those specialties.

One of his students completed an original translation of Ukrainian (I think) government documents from the 1980s and wrote about that for her final paper in his 300 level course. In my mind (I have a PhD in the same subject) that’s easily doctorate level work.

That’s the kind of student who goes to Chicago. I know literally nothing about Wake Forest, but if your child got in to Chicago, and likes rigor, they’ll be right at home. If you want something more laid back, don’t go to Chicago.

Chicago is rated higher but the crime and the weather are a hard NO! There is a lot more to school. Wake is a very well respected school with a ton of benefits.
