Shes making money off a country currently committing ethnic cleansing sponsored by the state. They only make triangles as obtuse as you within the realm of non-euclidean geometry.

Come back to talk when you have given away $100 million $$ to fight ethnic cleansing in the world. And excuse me, the entire western civilization is built on ethnic cleansing. So unless you are native American, you are a direct beneficiary of exactly that.

I find that conservatives crying crocodile tears over Uyghurs hypocritical given their track record with wanting to give aid and comfort to other Muslim refugee work groups such as Afghani refufees

Likewise, I also find it ironic when Democrats talk about the oppression of Uyghurs when Obama massively expanded the use of drones and bombed tons of Muslims, including a hospital of innocents and an entire wedding party.

They got dual citizenship for the chance to compete, wasnt as good as my DC. DC finished top 10 in trials / NCAA, but never made an Olympic team.

I imagine Gu could have made the US team? She chose to compete for China.

Dual citizenship is not the same as two citizenships.

China is trying to control Afghanistan. They will ultimately fail like all great Empires have failed in the past!

Doubtful. More likely they want the natural resources and will do what they must to get those from the Taliban. The same way they've been extracting resources from all over Africa and the Caribbean.

Eileen Gu is so sharp. Here is her answer to people like OP: "I know that I have a good heart, and I know my reasons for making the decisions I do are based on a greater common interest and something I feel is for the greater good," she said. "If other people don't really believe that that's where I'm coming from, then that just reflects that they do not have the empathy to empathize with a good heart, perhaps because they don't share the same kind of morals that I do."

"In that sense, I'm not going to waste my time trying to placate people who are, one, uneducated and, two, probably never going to experience the kind of joy and gratitude and love that I have the great fortune to experience on a daily basis," Gu said. "If people don't like me, that's their loss. They're never going to win the Olympics."

When she grew up celebrating the 4th of July, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and celebrating Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, what did being an American mean to her? Did she imagine growing up, standing on the podium and singing the anthem of Communist China as an Olympic champion? What does that mean to her? As a Chinese-American, I find all of it appalling. We Asian Americans often have to fight so hard to be recognized as American as everyone else. Hearing Gu state that China is her "homeland" and glibly explain that she joined the Chinese team in the name of inclusivity and to bring people together, it makes me ill. Why she is being lauded in news articles, given sponsorships by the likes of Red Bull, Cadillac, etc. is beyond me. All American corporations should pull their sponsorships.

Dual citizenship is mutual recognition of your double citizenship countries by these two countries; that is, they realize you are a citizen of both and recognize you as such, with mutual rights and responsibilities. It is usually governed by a treaty between two specific countries.

Two citizenships is just that; you hold two passports. Or more. When you're in one country, you're treated as a citizen of that country. When you're in the other country, you're treated as a citizen of that country. Both countries behave as if in their eyes, your "other" citizenship does not exist.

She's not saying anything at all about the Chinese govt.

I actually loved how unapologetic she is about this.

Just like China is when they stomp on human rights. But go on lapping it all up.

Personally I have no issue with her making money in China. There are so many hypocritical companies that say they are for human rights and use slave labor in China. We are not boycotting them and calling them out…few of us have any financial or personal stake in just talking….

That said, I believe context matters. She should loose all benefits of being a U.S. citizen
1. Remember the us vs Russian hockey team…how do we feel today about that win and why
2. She is a propaganda tool for a non democratic country….communism and democracy are not the same. China is playing the long soft propaganda game
3. Privilege matters. Different standard if you are smart, beautiful and rich
4. She choose to reject her American side publically while gaining all the benefits.

I wish her all the best, but I hope our elected leaders revoke her status as a citizen….we are allies with Israel ….China not so much

She should lose all her American benefits because the color of her ski outfit and where her medal goes?

Who cares? You realize Americans earn their living in countries all over the world.

I am honestly curious. Do people feel the same way about Naomi Osaka who mostly grew up in the US but plays for Japan?

I am very surprised by the hate towards a 18-year old Asian American. There are white Americans who are coaching the Chinese teams in the Olympics. Vic Wild from US competed for Russia. None of them get any mention in the media or social media. Looks like a race related thing.

Thomas Bach, the head of IOC, appealed to world to "give peace a chance". It seems that the cold war warriors have zero interest to do so. Not only that, they accuse others who don't follow their order as traitors.
