Anyone else think schools will be virtual after Winter Break?

More important than in-person school for all the students? How many kids on that team? Ten? 15? And now the entire school goes virtual because of a game? Seems that extracurriculars matter more than academics.

Is Sidwell a school or a ball club?

After the break, let the teams practice and play. No fans.

Let's get something clear - there is no particular evidence that suggests the "outbreak" at SFS started with basketball, one of two games pointed to was hosted by Maret. It could just as easily have been exposure at home to parents/relatives who were not being cautious.

As for an "outbreak" - the whole HS was tested last week, and a total of 12 positive tests came back out of over 500 students. Yeah, higher than it had been, but hardly a huge outbreak.

Then why go virtual at all?

Our school just announced they will be requiring a negative PCR test from all employees and students before returning to campus. To facilitate they are hosting a testing clinic on-site in advance. Depending on results and the latest developments with COVID in our area, the first week may be virtual to provide a buffer. Fully support all of this!

1) why virtual? Good question. School prioritizes low case count over everything, including educating kids
2) Wednesday, canceling Thursday and having a virtual Friday.

God help me if my kid goes virtual again...

Oh really! Didn’t realize. Get over it.

How do you just get over it? School will most likely be virtual for a few weeks in Jan. Maybe not if we are lucky but the writing is on the wall

It shouldn’t be if the hospitals aren’t overfull. And the hospitals shouldn’t be overfull if they stop letting in masses of selfish unvaccinated morons. Sadly, they’re likely to admit masses of selfish unvaccinated morons, overfilling hospitals, and preventing those with illnesses not caused by willful stupidity and selfishness in the face of a highly contagious disease from getting care, therefore messing up schools. Again.

How much will our kids continue to pay for selfishness and stupidity? I don’t know, but I do know that my kids and I have absolutely had it with the self-centered idiocy that’s been running things for nearly a year now.

This kind of thinking is pure evil. And talk about selfish. Some people have real reasons for not wanting to be vaccinated. But if we all don’t think like you, we should rot and go to hell? My family is vaccinated but I don’t wish evil and harm on those that aren’t. What is wrong with you?

No, PP, the poster you are attacking is 100% right. It’s time to let people receive their just desserts and stop the rest of us from suffering for their willful selfish, tantrums. Those who cannot get the vaccine for legitimate, medical reasons are the ONLY ones excepted from this. No vaccine = no hospital services, period!!

You are brainwashed and can’t see that it’s you who is selfish. This is NOT a communist country. At least not yet. There are plenty of good reasons to delay or reject the vaccine.

So should we deny medical assistance to anyone with illness or injury based on a decision you don’t agree with? You are sickly cruel. And self righteous.

No. There are not. There is ONE: documented anaphylactic allergy to one of the specific ingredients in this specific vaccine.

Why on earth would schools go virtual when covid DOES NOT kill kids? This insanity needs to end. There are many, many more variants to come. This is never ending, we need to move on.

Because this variant is spreading like wildfire, filling up hospitals already, and infecting others who may be at higher risk. It’s insane to not want to take any precautions. “Moving on” means adapting as the situation changes, not just pretending everything is normal again.

How about you mind your own business.

First of all, that was rude.

Second, it IS her business when the children her daughter teaches are running all over the globe right now.

Then there are the many thousands of adults and younger with long COVID, who are still suffering months after they were supposed to get over it and could have problems for life. But sure, let's just ignore them too if they are not in our immediate family.

My daughters friends are all in Europe right now and at first I was a little surprised but when you think about it, you are just as likely to catch it in New York so it really doesn’t matter at this point. I caught it locally a while back so in some ways perhaps the best outlook is just to get on with life?
