Ha! I guess everyone here who wanted to put a no phone use provision in their nanny contract is also a misogynist. God forbid you expect someone to focus on the kids they’re in charge of caring for. I actually feel bad for her children. Imagine having a parent who kept you out of school and then spent most of their time with you staring at their cell phone. |
Then perhaps she should go about it differently because constantly ranting about how everyone without kids is a selfish person who puts their career first and wants 26 cats is a bizarre way to show compassion for people who actually DO want children, but for a variety of reasons don't have them yet. |
LOL last time there was a thread about Bethany on here, Seth (who I usually like) tweeted about how conservative Jews in DC only have two friends: Mormons and David French. I was like....well....Mormons are too nice/normal to be friends with Bethany and David French is too smart to be friends with Bethany so it seems like she may be the one conservative Jew in DC who can't count them as friends. |
| I'm crying from laughing at the replies to Highlights' tweet to Bethany. "Highlights, you're great, but don't try to reason with her. She's got a screw loose and it's not worth it." |
I like "Hey @Seth, remember to pick up that prescription on your way home tonight." |

Bethany got a hit of martyrdom when no one bothered to read her "We Should Befriend Neo-Nazis" article and came for her over it. Spoiler alert, Bethany does not want to actually be besties with an active Neo-Nazi and accompany him to the next Charlottesville. All she was saying, albeit under a very clickbaity headline, was that the only way to end anti-Semitism is for Jews to show anti-Semites their humanity and change minds that way. She used the example of a little girl she went to school with insulting the only Jewish teacher at their school and Bethany playing along until it was time to go home and then Bethany said, btw, I'm also Jewish. The girl was forced to see Jews as human beings and she apologized and Bethany forgave her.
Of course the libs couldn't be half-assed to read the article so they assumed Bethany wanted to have matching Swastika tee shirts with a literal Neo-Nazi, prompting a twitter freakout, which gave Bethany and the idiot conservatives she pals around with an opportunity to play the victim. I think she enjoyed it so she's still doing it five years later. |
+1 Can’t think of anything more joyful than <checks notes> attacking Highlights Magazine. |
Oh, you made me look. And then I discovered that Bethany has blocked me. THAT was joyful.

We've tried killing them with kindness and they still want to kill us. Let me tell you about the time I was a teenager, applying for a job at Burger King. This guy with swastikas all over his knuckles was applying at the same time. We got chatting and I pulled the same move as BM - told him, at the end, that I was Jewish. He didn't say, "Oh well then I guess I was wrong to tattoo myself with a symbol of wanting to kill you and all people like you." He said, "Well YOU'RE ok." I don't flatter myself into thinking that he fundamentally changed his beliefs over this one encounter; he just decided to exempt me from his hatred that day. It's not really how we win this war. |
Moreover, I don't see the onus as on ME to befriend Nazis. I see the onus on Nazis not to be Nazis. It's not effective, and it's not moral, to place that burden on the people who are not Nazis. I do believe that people get over their bigotry when they meet real life people who belong to groups they hate. People stop hating gay people when they have nice gay neighbors. I still don't think the burden is on gay people to befriend anti-gay people, on the off chance that this time it'll take. |

Me: "Bethany has a good point, Europe doesn't mask toddlers, maybe we shouldn't."
Bethany: *writes insane screed to Highlights* Me: "Okay, maybe Bethany does not have a good point." |

I understand Bethany's opinions about making children wear masks all day at school, and her anger when she sees photos of the local politicians who make the mask policies out at public gatherings without masks on. I think her email to Highlights Magazine was appropriate given her stance. It was yet one more thing she observed -- the normalization of children wearing masks everywhere -- and she wanted to address it.
The people responding to her on twitter sound disingenuous and very mean-spirited. It seems she has haters just waiting to pounce. It's strange to see adults act like that. |
Bethany! What's up, girl? |
