If all costs were equal, would you rather your child attend a top public or top private school?

The only problem w/ WashU is people who went there seem to have come out with some really shithole values. Not sure it’s worth more than a local community college.

Doesn’t describe my family and friends who went there so you seem to be making that up.

Way back in the day WashU was a heavy Jewish school and was a school kids went to who didn't get into other schools they wanted, like the state schools. It was very much a rich kid school and had a reputation.

Rich kid school means more connection, which is why WashU is superior to most of the T20 and the ivies in terms of better job and grad school placement. Still better than every public school.

The people we know went there aren't doing any better or worse. Same for the IVY's. My IT husband who went to a no name school makes more than my undergraduate-medical school IVY league sibling.

Ivy people don’t always chase money. People who went to a no name school have more to prove. If your husband had a shitty salary to match his no-name education - let’s says, stocking shelves in aisle 6 at a local grocery store - would you have married him?

The OP must be comparing basket weaving programs, or English lit. Certainly, most professional degree programs, like engineering, CS, architecture, business schools, etc. have very degree specific rankings, so you pick between the top schools for your major. Not comparing schools overall.

Here, for example, are top 25 for accounting. UVA did not make the list lol

Dumba$$, UVA doesn’t offer an undergraduate degree in accounting.

I'm not the dumba$$ for failing to offer one. How do they have a biz school without accounting being offered?! weird.

McIntire does have an accounting concentration. Wharton, ranked #1 on the Niche list cited for accounting and finance also has an accounting concentration. Schools that are strong in finance generally have strong accounting as well.

I think top privates typically provide better undergraduate education than top publics, so in general I would say top privates.

+1. I'd go with general overall experience. I don't know why people pay out of state costs if they could attend a private for a similar price.
