If all costs were equal, would you rather your child attend a top public or top private school?

NP, this, above. What matters is which school has the best program in the kid's major subject, combined with overall "fit." I agree with this PP that blanket statements are not useful.

The OP must be comparing basket weaving programs, or English lit. Certainly, most professional degree programs, like engineering, CS, architecture, business schools, etc. have very degree specific rankings, so you pick between the top schools for your major. Not comparing schools overall.

Here, for example, are top 25 for accounting. UVA did not make the list lol

Dumba$$, UVA doesn’t offer an undergraduate degree in accounting.

I'm not the dumba$$ for failing to offer one. How do they have a biz school without accounting being offered?! weird.

^^ But proves the point that you can't just compare schools overall ^^

McIntire, the UVA undergraduate business school, offers an accounting concentration, but not an accounting degree. So, not weird. Do people go to HBS to get an accounting degree? They do not.

The only problem w/ WashU is people who went there seem to have come out with some really shithole values. Not sure it’s worth more than a local community college.

Doesn’t describe my family and friends who went there so you seem to be making that up.

Way back in the day WashU was a heavy Jewish school and was a school kids went to who didn't get into other schools they wanted, like the state schools. It was very much a rich kid school and had a reputation.

Rich kid school means more connection, which is why WashU is superior to most of the T20 and the ivies in terms of better job and grad school placement. Still better than every public school.

Not even remotely true. WashU has terrible name recognition, virtually zero prestige, and has middling outcomes for grads. While i generally agree that top privates trump even top publics and would prefer to send my kids to a private if given the choice, WashU is not a great example in this.

Citation? You offered zero evidence. It's now the school with the 5th or 6th largest endowment in the US and soaring in prestige.

Wharton, Haas, Ross, and most of the other top tier undergrad business programs don't offer specific degrees in accounting.

What is your citation that it is soaring in prestige? And no, WashU does not have the 5th or 6th largest endowment. You suck at this game.

The people we know went there aren't doing any better or worse. Same for the IVY's. My IT husband who went to a no name school makes more than my undergraduate-medical school IVY league sibling.

Wash U is a fine school but paying 2X as much for it vs. other schools seems silly except if you can 100% afford it and its a good fit for your child.

Keep crying... soon you will see WashU in the Top10 to much of DCUM's horror.

Not every school can be at the top at the same time. But best of luck with your insecurity; I'm sure it can't be easy being so insecure.

What does Harvard have to do with this? Anyway. . . back to the top 25 accounting schools (not UVA).

This. UVA, like every other respected undergraduate business school, doesn’t offer a degree in accounting. That makes your top 25 accounting list pretty meaningless.
