"A live single round was accidentally fired on set by the principal actor, hitting both the Director of Photography, Local 600 member Halyna Hutchins, and Director Joel Souza," the email said. "Local 44 has confirmed that the Props, Set Decoration, Special Effects, and Construction Departments were staffed by New Mexico crew members. There were no Local 44 members on the call sheet."

So the weapons/prop manager was not a union member? Any posters know if there is more than one union for props managers?

So was there any props manager on set? That union is clearly stating no one from their union was on set. Can anyone decode this for me? Maybe an inexperienced non-union weapons manager on set?

This investigation just went in a whole new direction.

I'm predicting deliberate sabotage by some local gun-nut they hired for the crew who doesn't like Alec Baldwin.

That member of the NM crew will be charged with murder if that is true. That is insane.

But no Union weapons manager to control firearms?

Probably was a non-union shoot for below-the-line crew. Non-union shoots are incredibly common.

Even if this is true, shouldn't Alec also know to check the gun? I believe that is part of the rules put in place after the Brandon Lee incident.

Is this a guess, conjecture??

The statement is that nobody from that union local (Local 44), which is based in LA. It's possible there was somebody from a different local or different union on site.

Are the weapons protocols standard for union/non-union?

Clearly its conjecture. But how the hell else did a non-prop gun with a live round end up in Alec Baldwin's hand? Someone gave it to him. Someone place a live round in the weapon. And that "someone" is very likely NOT the actor.

Now I actually do wonder if it was tampered with, and would they be able to catch that person.

Someone disgruntled in the workplace.

So who gave him the hot gun?

I wonder if it was some crazy person who had something against her.

It's an ugly thing to say at this moment, but I am going to say it anyway. Alec Baldwin has a reputation for explosive anger and he is widely disliked. It is absolutely possible that a disgruntled person decided to really complicate his life, with total disregard for how this would affect others (death), or thinking that Alec would follow gun safety protocol and not point the weapon at anyone. If they were trying to shut the set down, having a gun fire a live round is a pretty surefire way to do it.
