Watch Squid Game on Netflix

Accurate. With a mix of Saw/Purge/Hostel.

I do not get why people like this show. It is disgusting.

Unless there's some rule the winners have to follow afterwards that specifies that they can't be too flashy with their winnings. Since the old guy at the end knew the winner Gi-hun hadn't spent his winnings, we know they are monitored after winning. It would be hard to explain where millions suddenly came from for these poor people.

what the hell is the point of winning money in this game if you can't spend it?

Suspend reality folks, just got a bit.

Why were the "VIPs" such horrible actors? Even though I don't understand a word of Korean, I felt like the korean actors did an excellent job with their emotions. The VIPs sounded like they were just reading their lines from a script and trying to put on some weird southern accent.

Agree the VIP casting was awful compared to the regular cast. The lead actor deserves all the awards!

I think it was intentional to make them seem like stupid Americans.

No. It's not.

Maybe, but they weren't all Americans and all were bad.

Now you know how literally everyone who speaks a language other than English feels when they hear their language represented in Hollywood.

No. It's not.

Yes. It is.

Just with R rated violence.

Imagine they actually showed everyone dying graphically in Hunger Games.

From what I understand, there aren’t many non-Korean actors in their industry and often, those roles are played by non-actors who happen to know someone working on the show. I think this is something that will change as Netflix expands the global demand for Korean content.

I’m Korean who watches a lot of Korean dramas, and I can confirm that this is not just with Squid Game but generally with any Korean dramas or movies with non-Korean casting (e.g., the casting for Mr. Sunshine was horrible). It’s hard to find good “foreign” actors in Korea.

But in America we’re only sad if they’re innocent children who are murdered for fun, rather than poor people.

This show reminded me of The Lottery which I had to read in elementary school and was shown the movie at school too. I was a sensitive kid and it traumatized me. I wonder if they make kids read/watch that in school anymore? I feel it is inappropriate to assume all kids are ready for that. I was not.

That said, I liked Squid Game even though I had to avert my eyes during the violent scenes.
