Athletes are doing a job and they are not actually there for your entertainment

Actually, entertainment is exactly what sports at this level are. Why do you think stadiums are filled with spectators and broadcasters compete for the television rights? It’s entertainment and a lot of money is made from that entertainment.

They don’t owe you anything FFS.

How, she choose a career that puts her in the limelight. She car retire tomorrow, delete her social media, and disappear into obscurity if she chooses
I read something that said when she was a teen she was considering quitting but her family wouldn’t let her.

She said she’s taking a break and that she knows her feelings towards the sport aren’t normal. Don’t you think this is exactly what she is doing?

She’s an adult now and has enough money to never work again

For all we know she could be contemplating this. And if she is I’m sure dealing with feelings of being a failure, a quitter, and letting everyone down are overwhelming and hard to process. BTW, I don’t think any of those things are true, but I also don’t think a decision like that is as easy as saying - oh well, I’ve got millions I’m just going to walk away from this forever.

I hope she finds her peace, whatever that might be.

I like Naomi. I wish her to find peace in whatever decision she makes. I wish for her mental health to get better. I wish for her to realize that even when she loses, she is an incredible player and more importantly, an incredible person. She is not a failure. I wish her well.

She's her own worst enemy at this point.

The job is entertainment. Have you never been to a professional sporting event?

Maybe fewer photo shoots and endorsements and more focus on tennis skills.

Professional sports is literally nothing BUT entertainment. It serves no other role of value in society.

I don’t feel “owed” anything, but the fact is that professional sports exists because people enjoy being entertained by watching them. If athletes want to play for their own enjoyment, that’s fine, but they’re not going to get paid unless they are entertaining for spectators to watch.

Umm. That’s exactly why they are there. That’s why you pay and it’s not free.

She owes anyone that paid to go to that match. If you are paid to do something - it’s called a job and you are accountable. I love how people thinks she can do whatever she wants and be paid millions. She isn’t a brain surgeon. Why should she be paid millions?

When you look at her overall wealth, very little of that comes from prize money from tennis. She has a very lucrative deal with Nike and many other endorsements and partnerships.

Actually that's exactly what they are there for. Sports are entertainment.
