I went to the French Open a few years ago to watch Nadal on the main court. The official would go nuts if the crowd said anything, including cheers. He went totally bezerk when the crowd started to do the wave. I cannot imagine anyone heckling. Why? Do these same people go around in other public spaces screaming insults at people?! WTH!

Indian Wells is the tournament that Venus and Serena Williams boycotted for several years due to racist heckling. The tournament doesn’t have an effective way to address this issue. I commend Osaka for wanting to address the crowd herself — although it’s shameful that it would even reach that point.

Yes they do. They should increase security and remove people like the heckler.

She would most definitely not make it as a baseball or hockey player. But frankly it’s not right that fans abuse any athlete. Why is that behavior normalized in other pro sports?

Because part of cheering for a team is cheering against their opponents. If "you suck" is enough to make her crack, I would imagine that it will now happen at every tournament she enters especially if she ever plays a local favorite.
