Having a Hard Time with new Friends and Politics Ugh

^ friends on the left, before I’m accused of only having one.

This is a dumb take. How do you know OP’s neighbors aren’t all left wingers? I’m moderate and I’m sick of my liberal family and friends who constantly talk about politics. It’s exhausting.

My friend on the left are as dogmatic as my friends on the right. This behaviour is not exclusive to one party.

I am a hard-line D voter. I can no longer stomach my progressive friends. They are just as self righteous as the Trumpers. It's too much. So yes, these pool parents could easily be either side. I have no difficulty believing that there are liberal parents at the pool patting themselves on the back for whatever moral high horse they're on at present.

+1

OP, I’d wait for the right moment and try to casually change the topic, take it as your cue to leave, or do something like go make a quick phone call Etc and come back. I don’t care to hear about politics either, when I am just trying to relax and be social. Obviously there will always be a small amount of discussion around politics, but some people can be very obnoxious. If it is really that bad and no strategies work to make things a bit more tolerable, I’d find different friends.

And the Democratic Party is not? Democrats are no innocents in the divisiveness that now exists over politics. Own it.

The problem is my neighbors are extremely political. We can't have a conversations without politics coming up. I deflect and do not engage - I've gotten good at this because of practice with family. But it makes me so uncomfortable. And the actively promote certain political stances on their FB pages that I 100% disagree with. Why can't we all just keep our mouths shut and keep our politics to ourselves? Didn't the old adage used to be never to talk about politics or religion? These are nice working people who think that they have become experts on vaccines, masks, Afghanistan, whatever. Believe what you want but for goodness sakes can we all just shut up about it? It's downright painful.... I left DC to get away from all this political garbage and it has infected everything, just everything.

Either you are for Democracy or not. If not leave the US.

Painful are the morons like you not understanding this is life or death for our children. No I am not being dramatic.

Pick either Russian politics or US there is no middle ground.

By the way why the H would anyone be friends with you????

Try again.

This is Trump and his follower's fault.

Really I don't see Democrats blowing up things do you? Today in particular. Are you a complete idiot or just today?

Democrats are not calling for armed people to overtake the current government.

Trumpers on the other hand shoot up schools killing children, try to hang the VP, over take the government of the US by force and you think Dems are the issue.

Bottom line you are either for Democracy or not.

Leave the US if you do not support our laws. Move to Russia Troll.

Liar,

You are not a Democrat.

If you were you would not be using vocabulary that Trump and his cronies use.

You and your cronies are the "self righteous " Traitors to the US.

Yeah pretty sure the new friends are not the Trumpers.

Exactly.

My sister complains about this too. It’s “impossible to make friends” in her neighborhood because everyone talks politics and she feels uncomfortable. Which is her way of saying they are all Dems and she’s a Republican.

No, it’s not a dumb take. Both parties have always had anti democratic elements. “The Squad” is an ant democratic tendency on the Left. But “The Squad” doesn’t control the Democratic Party. The anti democratic alt Right now does, however, control the Republican Party.

What's wrong with saying, "I really don't want to talk politics, can we talk about something else?" Just put it out there. I would. Then again, I am over 50 and I've lost my filter around such things and don't put with people who push my buttons as much. Let that flag fly. I wish I had learned to do it at 35!

Really who is shooting up schools? White Christian male Trumpies.

Who brought guns to Charlottsville chanting Nazi garbage?

Who online is promoting violence? Good old white Christian bible-thumping idiots.

Who created and participated in Jan 6th? Erecting Gallows to hang the VP of the US was not Liberals.

Who just tried to bomb the Library of Congress? OLd White Christian dude.

Might want to come back online after your boys are done threatening everyone with their bombs and guns.

All for the fat orange idol who literally stole 100's of millions of $ from Taxpayers. Yeah that's patriotic.

Stay away from people who use FB a lot. It means they are losers and/or have very low EQ. Get off of FB yourself.

You're proving my point. And yes, I have been a D my whole life. I even work in immigration, which is nearly 100% D. I volunteer in gun violence prevention. I mean, I couldn't be more D. That said, I see a lot of my colleagues and fellow volunteers who are hard to stomach. I totally understand why we're off setting and not good at bringing people to the fold.

It's DC area. People here are not aware that most of the country cares less about politics. But here it's unavoidable. So boring and bizzarre.
