You took the words right out of my mouth. |

Ugh! We live in a dog-friendly apartment building, and during the snowstorms, every time we wanted to benefit from the beautiful expanse of sledding hills in front of the building, we had to side-step the poop! Right in front of the "pick up after your dog" sign...
Eventually DS slid right into one that I had not spied out, and got it all over his boots, sled, trousers, socks, gloves and coat. It was awful, I made him strip in our floor corridor, where he happily proclaimed to all the neighbors walking by that he had trodden in "DOG POO". Then I carried him bodily into the bathtub, and when he was cleaned up went back for the clothes and gear and washed everything in the tub (clothes then went into the laundry for a second wash - did not want to contaminate the shared washer!). A nightmare. The sledding was great, though

Ooooooooooh the dog poop issue! If I were less tired I could say so much. This is a big problem here in Adams Morgan. I think paid dogwalkers are partly to blame, but so are the oblivious "young professionals" (scare quotes because they're not as young as they think they are) who complete their families with widdle puppies because they don't feel ready to take on the kind of responsibility raising a human child requires. It seems they're not even responsible enough to clean up after their damn extraspecies "babies" either. Let's just say it's never wise to step in the tree boxes around here.
During the blizzard the piles of crap and yellow snow immediately outside apartment building lobbies testified to the fact that so many of these "babies" were sent just outside the front door to do their business. Other building residents and passersby who wanted to use the sidewalk without getting mired in filth be damned. |

22:24, nice try. I don't buy it, sorry. Like 21:34's neighbor who, even when confronted, just walked away. (Love it 21:34). A hole dog owners. I bet they are the same people who bitch about kids in restaurants too.
I had a similar problem with a neighbor allowing her dogs to stay out all day and bark. One citation from animal control stopped that problem. |
I'm also in Adams Morgan. Agree with all of the above. I live in a little apartment complex, and we're one of very few units without dogs. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE dogs, but they've let their dogs practically ruin the joint. There's no decent landscaping out front, they don't consistently clean up the poop, and there's a little fenced area that could be a green space, but instead is a muddy, barren dog run. Couple times a year I have to call management and ask them to remind my neighbors to please pick up after their dogs. It gets old. </vent> |

Ahhh....the non-poop scoopers. I hate them about as much as the "no leash" people. You know the ones that tell you how much their dog listens and is under voice control- and this is while the dog is jumping on me and the stroller. I also love the "but my dog is nice" excuse. Your dog may be nice, but my leashed dog gets defensive if a non-leashed dog runs up to us. So your nice, "controlled" dog is going to get a butt kicking.
It is amazing how much dog poo is out there isn't it? I remember walking my dog with the stroller and my dog did her business. And I could tell that this elderly woman was getting ready to berate me - she just assumed I was going to ignore it (because I was pushing the stroller back and forth trying to keep my son from crying). When I pulled out the bag, she literally stopped in her tracks and thanked me. That is just sad. |

| This is such a huge issue in my neighborhood and talked about by everybody. We have a guy who is notorious for this and ignores people (like what happened to a PP). He is such an ass! I found out where he lives and if his dog leaves us anything, it'll be hand delivered back to him. The other problem we have is with cats doing this in the garden beds with mulch. We have 3 or 4 nearby that do this. I just let my dog out after them. He's too nice to do anything and thinks they are going to play, but the cats run awy and have stopped pooping in our yard. |
| We're the only people in our MoCo neighborhood who seem to leash their dog. Our neighbors with dogs all think our dog must be dangerous because we leash her. I'm about hair's-breadth away from calling animal control on all those idiots. |
| There is someone who walks there dog in my alley that lets it poop around my car and garbage cans and does not pick it up. It drives me NUTS as I've almost stepped in it a million times and I know there will be a day that I do. I don't know who it is or I would say something. Its super frustrating because we have a large dog and always pick it up. Just put it in the trash...put it in OUR trash just don't leave it right by the driver's side door of my car!! |

My dog peed on someone's bush in Alexandria and the lady had the nerve to tell me not to let my dog pee on her bush. I said, "give me a hose and I will wash off your bush!" Direct quote, I swear. Shit, I can understand, but pee is crazy?

22:24 here. What in the hell is with you? Why would you not believe what I said? You sound like the type of person who looks for something to be miserable about. I tried to write a nice note -- which, by the way, AGREED that people not scooping poop is a problem and instead of being nice in return you call me an "a hole dog owner?" You sound like hating dogs is not your only or biggest problem. I guess you think EVERYONE who owns a dog lets them poop in your yard? Silly. |
Over time, urine damages plants. In DC neighborhoods with high dog density like Adams Morgan and Dupont, grass, flower beds, and other plantings not protected by walls/ fences look like crap because of this cumulative damage. I can imagine Old Town having these issues, too. |
I think this goes too far, too. And I am not a fan of dogs and owners..... |
I love dogs, but I do not want people letting their dogs pee on my tiny front yard, because yes, it kills plants, including grass. I once came out of the house and saw a couple walking their dog and letting it wander into our yard. I said, "We prefer not to have other people's dogs in our yard," and the woman asked, "Why not?" Seriously? I need a reason for you to keep your dog off my yard? |
