Gun shots on 14th street tonight!

Acosta just said that the gunman was firing at a group of teens. Karl Racine and Charles Allen should get their statements about “not yet fully developed brains” ready.

I live at 16th and R and was right on this intersection about 30 minutes before this happened. I NEVER walk down R between 14th and 15th because of the sketchy group of young guys who have nothing better to do than drink/smoke/do drugs all day/every day outside. These are the guys that were involved in/shot at 3 weeks ago when the innocent Peace Corps staffer was shot and killed.

I went into the new Amazon Fresh at 14th this evening at around 8 pm and noticed that the group of guys usually hanging out closer to 15th on R, was hanging out on the corner of 14th and Riggs right across from the Amazon Fresh. They were surly part of it (either the target or among the shooters).

Before the incident a few years ago, it had been a long time since there had been a shooting on that block. The last I remember was Thanksgiving night 2016.

This statement would indicate that you don’t get around much.

This is the second drive by in less than a month during evening hours, so it’s certainly worse than you would think based on the restaurants and stores.

Yeah I think the PPs are just looking at the businesses and saying "But but but Le Dip! Framebridge! Salt & Sundry! Barcelona! 1.4 million dollar row houses! Glass walled condos!" and not realizing that there are absolutely historically problematic blocks of housing there...right in the middle of it. Conflict can occur anywhere, and often it comes out when neighborhoods intensify the have/have not vibe. That plus summer....bad recipe.

I’ve been living in DC since 1982 and lived in DuPont for ten years. There is a lot of low income housing on those surrounding blocks. The areas has improved a bit crime wise since they turned the homeless shelter into luxury condos, but there are still a bunch of teenage guys living nearby.

What’s the beef that they are attacking kids and then others are shooting back?

“Conflict can occur anywhere?” “Can?” Maybe. Does it? No. The question that was being debated on the real estate forum, before this incident occurred, is how long people will be paying $1.4 million for row houses where this happens.

In the 90’s, I lived at 18th and S, and I never went east of 16th Street. Then the neighborhood got “safe” and people started paying a fortune for row houses. How great is that “walk score” when you can’t safely go out after dark?

And this wasn't even after dark! Still tons of daylight....We live very close to here and don't go out anymore after dark

They weren’t attacking little kids. It was a group of teens being shot at, and I’m sure this was the result of some nonsensical neighborhood beef between groups of young men in their teens and early 20s.

Yup, that was absolutely the dividing line - "Dont go east of 16th St"

Another long time downtown dweller here who very much remembers when it was not safe to go east of 16th and few risked walking through Meridian Hill/Malcolm X park in daytime. There also used to be a 17th & Euclid crew who made the streets around the area where Harris Teeter is now a “no go” zone because of the gun battles.

I lived near Dupont Circle in the late 80s and most of the 90s. I went past 16th Street all the time. I went to the New Vegas Lounge quite a bit (I'm surprised it hasn't been gentrified out by now). Also, the Black Cat. I had friends who lived on 13th who I hung out with. While lots of people were scared to cross 16th, I never found it all that bad. The makeover of Logan Circle is still amazing though.

These poor misunderstood boys and their adolescent brains. They need our tax dollars and free housing. 🙄

Who said “little” kids. Anyone younger than 25 is a kid to me.
