I think most celebs are not equipped for marriage to work long term. I mean look at the number of celeb divorces. I think celebs have teams of people telling them how great they are and making life really easy for them, and marriage is all about striving to BE a better person and grow up and do the work. I think Matt Damon had the right idea to marry someone like that single mom waitress and not a star.

Damon’s marriage is super interesting to me. And part of why it’s interesting is just how different it is from what Affleck did/does relationship-wise.

Yeah. He needed “saving” from JLo so she did so by getting pregnant and staying as he repeatedly fell off the wagon, banged nannies on private jets, and otherwise showed tremendous stability due to her sacrifice. Yes.

I'm not saying he needed "saving" - I was thinking he was feeling he wanted to settle down but with someone who wasn't quite as ...showy? Not sure that is the right word, but you know where I'm going. There was less of a go-go-go with Jennifer Garner. She was a star, but wasn't high wattage, constantly on the red carpet.

I do think that he bought into that idea for a while. I don't think he was boozing it up and banging the nanny the entire time they were together. I think they were good probably until after Seraphina was born. Then it started to go downhill.

I could be completely wrong, but he seemed to clean up his act for a stretch there. I think he WANTED to be the family man.

But things just went south. It happens.

I loved her reaction to his ridiculous back tattoo, though.

Absurdity! Garner could turn every guy’s head. Most women wouldn’t even notice Affleck (if he weren’t famous) walking down the street. And the back tattoo is ... no words.

What did she see in him? I wonder what he saw in HER. I always thought he was way out of her league, lookswise. Classic case of nerdy plain Jane who bagged the hot guy. I bet she couldn’t believe her luck.

She should have stayed with Scott. He still looks good and healthy.

I’ve been rewatching Felicity since Hulu just added it, and he really was (and is!) so handsome!

DP, but I think he cleans up well. Jennifer Lopez sure had him looking bronzed and chiseled - this was around the time Garner had her eye on him.

Yes. He was certainly out of her league when they got together. He was very handsome when he was younger and sober. And had A list status and respect in Hollywood.

Coming off from Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Garner as your wife is...a strange choice.
