Or how about we use some imagination and use community centers and vacant office space to ensure all kids can have a 5 day a week in-person option? Also I big part of the 5 day a week movement is that it should be with a real, live teacher - none of this "virtual teaching" to in-person students. And virtual kids should be getting 5 days a week too! |
Did you miss the announcement that school is essential and should be opened? The data is not really on the CDC's side on this one. (source). If they'd released science-backed school re-opening guidelines, that sure would've helped. |
Wow. A COVID/science denier who is also unhinged? I'm shocked. Shocked. |
School buildings have been closed, not schools. There's a difference. |
Given the learning loss and number of students who are just ... gone ... from public schools, I’m not sure there is. But that’s a nice talking point I see a lot. “Just because buildings are closed doesn’t mean there’s no school!” ![]() |
It's not just CDC that says ventilation and distancing are required. COVID spreads through the air. There was an interview on NBC yesterday about how bad APS's engineering firm said the ventilation was in a lot of school buildings. We have schools that are well above 100% capacity. Cramming a bunch of people into a poorly ventilated room right now is not exactly the smartest move. Let's wait a few months until there are more vaccinations and fewer cases. We'll get there in the fall. |
I disagree with their approach. But what science denial in particular are you referring to. The science that is relevant here pertains to a specific subgroup. |
Yeah but the school had been even worse than imagined. |
I am not for 5/week now, but in the fall I might be. With the announcement that vaccines will be available for 16+ by May it's potentially a game changer. We'll know by July if rates/hospitalizations are coming way down. We'll also have data on kids infection rates (when adults are vax) even though they wont yet be vaccinated yet. |
1000% |
I think 5 days a week for elementary is necessary and doable. Hybrid for MS/HS. I support the signs. APS has been too influenced by risk adverse woke moms for too long. They need a kick in the butt to do anything. |
By fall at least half of high school kids will have been vaccinated/offered vaccines (16+). I think HS is doable in the fall. |
Yes, agree totally. But elementary needs 5 day a week now. We can do it with 3 feet given that so many chose to stay with DL. |
OP- I would love to know your thought process here. (1) You're in the APE Facebook group. Why? (2) You see the post on new signs and come to DCUM to post about it. Why? (3) Do you really have nothing better to do to occupy your day? |
