APE doesn’t have my support or mist if my neighbors—all of whom have sent their kids hybrid. To much damage to APEs rep with the screaming parents at SB meetings. No one wants to vote for that. Not saying the candidate is like that. I have no idea. But she’s tainted by it.

He was already planning RTS for March and those dates aligned with Northam’s plan. Watch the 2/4 board school meeting. Northam announced the next day.

At last night’s School Board meeting, I provided updates on the work that has been underway with principals and staff to prepare for student returns in March, in anticipation of announcing those dates at the next School Board meeting. Given Governor Northam’s press conference this morning, I will announce the dates in my Return-to-School Update this coming Tuesday. Our timeline aligns with the Governor’s guidance.

I honestly think the fear stems from the fact that many people in Arlington are Republicans at heart and they wouldn’t be able to control themselves with agreeing with Republican school board or county board members and their biggest fear is being outed for not really believing their liberal/social justice yard signs 🙄

Republicans in 2021 are the definition of crackpot. Especially the ones pushing to open schools no matter what. F them and their alternate reality.

I think you vastly overestimate how many people watch school board meetings or read AEM with any regularity.

I’m happy schools are opening (now, with things improving), but my issues with APE are numerous. If I had political aspirations, I would not think it wise to be associated with them. I am sure there are some reasonable people in it, but they have stayed members while teachers who have worked so hard this year have been completely disparaged. I’m also not a fan of the hysteria- distance learning is not root of all evil, nor should school be the panacea for everything.

Did I miss the announcement that COVID is over? Because I swear I just heard the CDC Director and President Biden say now is not the time to relax our mitigation efforts because 50,000 people a day are catching COVID and 2,000 people a day are still dying from it. Presumably this mitigation includes the social distancing that is impossible if all students go back right now. I also heard President Biden say yesterday that adults will be vaccinated by the end of May, so maybe it's worth waiting for at least that?

Whatever. they have my full support and the support of many friends/families. Most of them are busy working and taking care of their families, and hence, do not have the time to engage with the anti-opening, keep schools closed forever group here on DCUM.

Totally agree. My kids are headed back but I am not a fan of how APE has handled this whole situation. On a walk last week, my 12 year old pointed out how their signs alienate people who may not yet feel comfortable with returning to school. Their tactics may rev them up but it's going to be a negative for voters.
