Weight after having kids - any hope?

Anonymous
After having kids I was able to “get back” to actually 5’7” 124 lbs, while over 40 no less. So it is totally possible OP. The thing is that my body is just not the same shape, regardless of getting back to pre-kids weight. You might find the same.

Well, your doctor sucks! Not telling you to stop eating for 5 people when you are only pregnant with one baby! But, what is done is done. I do not recommend dieting while breastfeeding. Do it after. But, you clearly know how to diet as you lost so much already. Don't ocd about 15lbs, that is a sure way not to lose it. Just go slow and steady.

Op here - I ate well and exercised until my 8th month with all 3 pregnancies. I just had really big babies (9+lbs and no gestational diabetes). For some reason my body just puts on a lot of weight while pregnant. My doctor was never worried because I always lost the Wright (well after baby 1 and 2) easily. Now I am done having kids after baby 3 and want to get back to normal.

There is hope! I had big babies, too, and gained a bunch of weight. I'm also 5'7''/130 and had my last kiddo in at 36. I definitely stayed around 140/145 until I stopped breastfeeding, but once I weaned, the weight just kind of fell off. I exercised consistently, but not particularly intensely. I eat well, but no diet per se.

9lbs! Ok, I get the weight then! Good luck.

I gained 60 pounds with my child. Lost it all. It’s definitely possible. You have to really want it. Decide you want a nice body more than you want to eat. That’s really all it’s about. The average person doesn’t require much food.

How hard did you have to work to maintain your target weight? If it took dieting when you were younger it will be even worse now. It’s definitely possible to lose the weight, but is it worth it?

Op here - no it wasn’t very hard to maintain. I am very active usually and have never dieted before. I pretty much have been able to eat and drink what I want and maintain my weight as long as I work out.

I found the last 10 lbs very hard to lose while breastfeeding. There is so much stress and fatigue when the kids are little, it can be tough. Once the kids got older, the weight fell off easily.

Definitely can! After my 3rd, I got the fittest I’ve ever been through exercise and eating better then before. I used to be 5’8 137-140 and am now 128 or so. I’ve maintained it for 2.5 years. It’s all about eating right, and also regular exercise—though diet plays a bigger role.

This is encouraging. I've been trying to lose the last 10-15 lbs for a few months with no luck. Baby is almost 1, I weaned last week so maybe that'll make a difference. I'm 5'5" and 143 now, was 190 right before delivery.

5’7 and 124 pounds after 3 kids. After kid 3 weaned I hardcore dieted. Once I got to my goal weight I relaxed a bit and added in cardio. I now work out 3-4 days a week and eat super clean and low calorie on weekdays and eat whatever I want on weekends. I have maintained my weight for 3 years now. I’m at my pre wedding weight and feel amazing!

I’ve only had one baby but at 39. I finally lost the last 15 pounds at age 42 by swimming/water aerobics. Nothing else worked for me. It continues to keep me in shape until she 47 when Covid shut down my access to the pool for several months.

OP, I also had the same issue, cut out a lot of cheese and meat started to consume tons of veggies. Low sugar diet and bam lost all the baby weight in 3 months

I lost the weight pretty easily (I'm +2 from pre-kids with 5 and 3 year olds). But, had my second at 39 and my figure didn't bounce back. My belly used to be flat but now sticks out a bit. It's veeerrrry slowly getting smaller/flatter. People would still call me slim but not like I used to be :-/ It's a matter of getting older and skin not bouncing back like before. I do HIIT and strength 4 days a week and eat very little processed food.
