SAT today

+1

and I completely understand what you are saying OP

You are lucky they didn’t last minute cancel. My friend got notice late yesterday her son’s SAT was canceled for today. No mention of refunds.

Pick your poison, op.

OMG, OP, you are this same parent of a junior, aren’t you?

As for me, I am the parent of a senior who has yet to sit for this damn test (several cancellations of both SAT and ACT!). My child has good but not great grades, but tests incredibly well. Why don’t you just hyperventilate somewhere else for a change? I’m with the other parents saying HOORAY!

Also, f'cking schools should be open, anyway. But no one cares about the kids' mental health.

I also doubt there were 1000 kids there.

I dropped off 20 min early (just in case they overbooked) and there were maybe 50 kids in a line.

My kid is not special. They should have had more testing centers open with fewer kids at each site. It’s not rocket science. The way it was conducted was terrible. I actually felt bad for all the kids there, not just mine. And for the kids who couldn’t get a spot since the whole situation is unacceptable.
I hope it makes some of you feel really good to be so rude to others online. So brave.

There were 5 lines at different school entrances. Easily 100-200 kids per line. Kids still outside waiting on line at 8:20.

Hey OP, can you answer the PP? Is your kid a junior who took a spot from a senior? I hope this is the end of the College Board and the SAT. I hope all the juniors who took these spots find their tests are worthless next year when all schools drop the test completely. Juniors do not need to be taking the test in August. OP, you are horrible.

There must be over 1000 kids at this school to take the SAT.
Schools are closed, yet this money making ridiculousness goes on.
Where are our priorities???? These kids should not be subjected to this viral risk.

Of course, we could have stayed home but my son prepared and desperately wants to take this test.
I think it’s terrible.

You're disgusted because you voluntarily sent your kid in to take the SAT when most colleges have gone test optional? Ok

Thanks for reminding me why I took a 2 year break from ever looking at this website. Have fun being rude and insulting to each other. I’m out.

This testing is certainly a fiasco and everyone has to manage their own comfort levels. I know it’s a pain to drive to another area, but rural areas tend to have less students testing. My kid had 8 kids in her room when she finally was able to test. It seems that universities and private schools have the ability to set aside more testing spaces and safe protocols. I think schools like Freedom (which is already large) are trying to accommodate as many kids as possible to try to alleviate some of this anxiety. Most of the time, I have had success with speaking to the Principal or Head of Schools about their protocols and what would cause them to cancel so I can choose the best option for our family. Not always successful, but everyone is trying to do the best they can. If grades are 3.6 or above, I would go test optional anyway. We just aren’t at that gpa so needing to test. Good luck to everybody trying to navigate this.

DP. So hypocritical to be so concerned and still drop your kid off in what you seem to think was a potential death trap. Maybe that's why people are responding negatively to your post. If you'd turned around with your kid (which you should have done if your concern is genuine), then maybe people would be more receptive to your concerns.

Are rural testing site requiring masks during the test?
Anonymous
If your kids are practicing for SAT at home then ask them to wear a mask for the duration of the practice test. Kids may not be able to tolerate wearing masks for such a long time during the real test if they have not practiced it at home.

Just a tip.

We only consider the sites that say they are following the CDC protocols. Many of them are requiring the masks. Surprisingly, I have seen more mask wearing and hand sanitizing then I have locally. Just call and ask what their protocols are.
