SAT this weekend

Anonymous
My son is going into 11th grade and scheduled to take the SAT this Saturday.
We have been doing great with COVID precautions, so I am very uncomfortable with him sitting indoors with many other people to take the test. However, he has been taking a prep class and this was the natural progression, and he wants to take it.
I keep hoping his center gets cancelled, but no such luck.

Has anyone gone to a different testing center? Any feedback?
Are the people really disappointed about cancellations parents of 12th graders?

What is the general thinking about kids going to take these tests in enclosed spaces?? If they can't open school, why are these still happening?

No help here but good luck to him. Maybe wear a light surgical type mask the whole time and take hand sanitizer.

12th grade son taking it at HS. Masks are required and kids will be separated into multiple classrooms with 6-10 kids. Like everyone else, 4 tests have been cancelled. Back in May, I was secretly wishing they'd cancel for the year. He says he's been studying since January for the next cancellation. He's got to shoot his shot.

I do not understand - you can just cancel the test yourself. Why do you hope the test center gets cancelled?

and maybe open a seat for a senior?
Yes, we are disappointed, my senior’s center canceled 2 weeks ago and there was not a single seat in DMV and WV

Because I am not sure what the right answer is, and it would make the choice easy for me if it was cancelled!
I won't have to argue with my son about it. And, I don't know how to weight the risks and benefits if it is important for him to get the test done.

I think you're purposefully trying to torture parents of seniors who haven't gotten to take the SAT yet (or want to try and improve their score).

Do you have any idea how many rising seniors would kill to have that SAT seat. The College Board is a complete distaster. They should have allowed seniors only into these test centers. I think you're kind of a jerk for taking that spot from someone who needs it.

I was thinking the same thing.

Wow too bad College board didn’t prioritize testing for seniors somehow.

You guys are nuts. This is my first kid, and it's been 30+ years since I took the SAT myself. The course told us to sign up, so I did. I had zero idea about the politics surrounding this. Of course, the SAT board should have prioritized the seniors. That makes total sense. But, they didn't. So, I just simply went online and signed up. I didn't purposely try to torture someone else. I can promise that!

Can you name the school where is taking the test? I ask because my DS is supposed to take one at an McPs school but i have been informed that its unlikely mcps will proctor a test this year. Its best to pick a school not in mcps or DC. Would like to know if you are taking it at FCPS or a private?
