OK, you are now validated. 🙄 |
You’re bigger than OP so you’ll burn more in plain numbers (400 calories to her 293) but proportionally speaking based on your caloric needs and BMR, you’re burning the same percentage as OP. |
Are you under 5 feet?! Unless you're like 4'8" OP, you do not need to lose 3-5lbs. |
| How fast do you run? |
| For me, when I exercise I typically crave healthier food. I also tend to be more disciplined and feel more in control. Maybe it’s all mental but each time I have lost weight, exercise has been a critical component of the process. |
|
For comparison here are my numbers if you are interested op? Per my fitbit.
Yesterday I walked a bit over 9 miles. Total floors within the steps was 61. Total calories burned including resting 2300. I ate around 1500 calories. My resting burn is around 1100 calories according to some calculator. More you walk, or do cardio, more weight loss will happen if in the long run, you eat less than you burn. Day to day loss or gain is irrelevant. |
| Imagine you are being filmed every minute of the day. Does wonders for accountability for eating and exercising. |
| Unless you’re extremely fit or petite, I also think your calories burned sounds really low. I burn closer to 400 calories running 4 miles according to my chest heart rate monitor. |
But how fast do you run? |
|
You can burn A LOT of callories if you just simply do hill sprint. I am 50 years old and I do hill sprint three times a week along with my son and daughter. I do it at a much lower pace than my kids. The hill is similar to this one at Wootton High School in Rockville:

While calories burned walking vs. running are quite different, there actually isn't a huge difference in running speed as far as calories go. Running in general, no matter your speed, is a different biomechanic than walking and burns considerably more calories, but a mile at 6min vs 10min isn't going to be hugely different. They are both going to get your heart pumping hard. And the calories burned depend on a person's weight or body mass. But I agree that OP's still are quite low, unless she was walking a chunk of those 4 miles. |
No it’s really low. You would burn more calories just walking. Something is off, maybe your watch is not calibrated properly. Here the thing- calories = time x speed x mass. Stop running for distance and run for time. OP run for 45 minutes. |
Source? Personally, I experience a 6:00 mile (lots of effort) very differently than a 10:00 mile (about like walking) |
It's different effort for sure, but the calories are not likely to be different mile for mile. But congratulations if a 10min pace is like walking for you! |

Ive always been thin but when “skinny fat” became a thing, I started working out more and lifting.
The problem is, that stuff makes me SO hungry!! To the point where it’s hard to ignore. So it’s like, do I want to be thin and at my goal weight or do I want to be muscular and weigh more. It’s really frustrating. |
